Although I use the Sonos 2 app to control my new components, I also use the old Sonos 1 app to play music in my basement. Unfortunately, the Sonos 1 app is suddenly not able to play anything from my music library. I can play radio through the old app, but when I select Albums, Composers, etc., all I get is a little logo with the text, “No selections are available.” Very frustrating.
S1 and S2 uses two different versions of SMB to read your files. S1 requires SMB v1 to access, S2 requires SMB v2 (or higher) to read them. I suspect the location where your local files are stored is restricting S1 access, which is fairly common, as SMB’s first version was shown to be hacked fairly easily. Unfortunately, Sonos didn’t have the space necessary to update the Linux kernel that runs on S1 only devices.
Can your ‘downstairs’ devices be upgraded, either to S2, or replaced with newer hardware? It might be challenging (or it might not, I don’t know) to alter the location of your library to recognize SMB v1 and SMB v2/3x.
Hi Bruce,
Thank you so much for your very helpful reply. You’ve taught me a lot!
I am going to see if I can use the older speakers with Sonos 2 controller. That seems like the easiest fix.
