Songs listed in Android app queue are not in the correct order

I generally play imported WPL playlists from my library of MP3s, unshuffled.  I recently opened up the queue during playback to see the name of a prior song and noticed that the song order shown is not at all correct. I found that the order of the songs being played is accurate per the WPL playlist, however. Is this a known issue with the Android app?

How many tracks are there? The mobile apps have historically had trouble with larger collections. Can you try a Desktop app? They don’t have such issues.

Sonos does no sorting of its own.  It plays what it is sent.  Look into the Windows Media Player settings.

Defining an issue I have with playlists:

My Apple Music playlists are created using tracks found in the Apple Music library ( Not from my local library ).  There is a strange sorting issue with some of these Apple Music playlists.  When I create a playlist for music genres like Rock, Pop, Country, Jazz etc. I use the Apple Music sort option “Sort by Artist”.  When the playlist is the genre Classical I prefer the playlists are alphabetically sorted by the composers last name.  Since that is not a sort option in the Apple Music sort list I have to move each track to the proper location.  For some reason the playlists that use the “Sort by Artist” do not show in the correct order in the Sonos app.  The classical playlists that were manually ordered in Apple Music do show in the correct order in the Sonos app.  So something is wrong where playlists that use an Apple Music sort option are sent to Sonos with incorrect sort order.  That’s on Apple.

My local library playlists are created using JRiver Media Center as M3U playlists.  The front end of the path statements are modified as they are stored in a different location than where JRiver lives.  JRiver is on the computer. The local library in a NAS.  The order of my M3U playlists show in the correct order when displayed in the Sonos app.

It does play in the correct order as defined in the WPL playlist. It displays something other than this order when you look at the queue. Windows Media Player has nothing to do with this issue and is not in use. I generate the WPL playlists with my own software and write them in that format.

There are indeed generally a lot of tunes in my playlists. In the one that was playing where I most recently saw this, there are about 1100 tunes. Perhaps that is it then. I do have the Windows desktop app and using it to play this same playlist, the queue does show the correct order.

@Johnny Rico

I don’t think the number of tracks is a problem when there are only 1100 tracks in the playlist.  I have M3U playlists of over 1500 tracks that show in the correct order.

Sounds like another mobile issue then. For Android, go to the Play Store and search for “Phonos Ultimate” - this app should show your queue accurately.

@controlav

Is that different than IOS Phonos Plus?

EDIT:  Research shows me it is different.  Is an IOS version of Ultimate something you are working on?

Yes, Phonos Plus is a utility app with simple playback features. Phonos Ultimate is a full player app (and available on every platform except iOS). (I’m not the best at coming up with product names...)

Will there ever be an IOS version of Phonos Ultimate?

I did not know there was a third party controller until I saw the info in your signature line. I will be getting it and looking forward to giving it a try! 👍

My wife wants it, and I know the code works, but I haven’t been able to deploy builds to iOS devices for a long time. I just retired so I have more time to curse Apple and try again at some point.
