Sleep Timer ends → Green LED appears at night (Stereo Pair Sonos One)

I use a Sonos One stereo pair in the bedroom and frequently use Sleep Timer.

After recent updates, when Sleep Timer finishes and playback fades out to zero, both speakers show a solid green LED during the night.

Important behavior:

If I manually pause playback → no green LED appears
If Sleep Timer ends playback → green LEDs appear
Speakers remain fully online and functional
No need to restart or reset devices

This did not happen previously and seems like a change in behavior after recent Sonos app/firmware updates.

Since this occurs in a bedroom use case, the LEDs are disruptive at night.

I suspect Sleep Timer end-state is now treated as mute/idle, triggering the green LED.

Can this behavior be confirmed or reviewed?

The green is the mute indicator, not sure about the change but we use these to dim the Sonos LEDs.

Many others available, other colors too.

Yes, but it worked flawlessly for years, and I do not agree that some update will screw it up.

Complaining to other users here will accomplish little, a moderator might see this and tag it as a feature request with no promise it would be accepted.

If you want a change (new or back) it is best to call Sonos support.

The green LED illuminating when muted has been the case for many years.
I can’t comment on the sleep timer fade-to-mute as I don’t use the feature.

It’s still “working flawlessly”, but apparently not in the way you want it to work.

What firmware are you running on the speakers? Have you updated to the current version 95.0-77060 ?

I just tried a sleep timer on a One and the LED did not remain green after the sleep timer ended.

Edit: Also now tried on a stereo pair of Ones and green LED only appeared briefly.

I have been having the same problem in the last few weeks with my stereo pair of One SLs in our bedroom. I am all up to date. I have contacted Sonos support twice and all they can say is it is not behaving as it should. That I already knew and was why I was contacting support. They couldn't help me. One of the representatives said I need to do a factory reset, but I thought we are not supposed to do that. So, I have a case number with no resolution.

Here’s the solution: If you’re playing music through the Sonos app, make sure you turn on the repeat all (two arrows in a circle).

What’s happening is that your music is stopping before the timer so when the app goes to reset the volume after briefly muting, there is no volume to reset to and it stays muted and the green light stays on.

If you want to test the theory, set your sleep timer for 15 minutes and play the last track of an album so that there is no music playing when the timer finishes. The green light will stay on. Then try it with music on repeat so that when the timer finishes, there is music playing. Momentary green light as it fades out and mutes and then the light shuts off.

Sorry for the lengthy explanation, but the green light in my bedroom was annoying so I did a little troubleshooting and have had success with this method.
