S2 Controller Upgrade not Working

I got a new Sonos Roam 2 and it told me that I need to upgrade to the S2 Controller.  It noted that I had an Amp that was not compatible and guided me to remove it from my system - which I did.

Now when I go to my S2 controller, it says that the System is only Compatible with the S1 Controller, but when I go to the S1 Controller System>System Tools it shows “System Compatibility” greyed out and it just guides me to upgrade to the S2 controller.  I am not fully going in circles. help!

If you downgraded any Sonos products to work on S1 you will have to factory reset those products to get them to be recognized as S2 again.

Also ( after the above) delete the S1 and S2 apps from your device and reinstall S2.

Power down any S1 units and shut down the S1 controller until you get the ROAM 2 installed.

The Roam 2 can only operate on the Sonos App (aka S2) and will not be seen by the S1 controller.

The Play 5 (Gen 1) is only compatible with the S1 controller and will not be seen by the Sonos App

The Products below are compatible with the Sonos App and S1 Controller

  • Amp
  • Beam (Gen 1)
  • Boost
  • Connect (Gen 2)
  • Connect:Amp (Gen 2)
  • Move
  • One (Gen 1)
  • One (Gen 2)
  • Play:1
  • Play:3
  • Play:5 (Gen 2)
  • Playbar
  • Playbase
  • Port
  • Sub (Gen 1)
  • Sub (Gen 2)
  • SYMFONISK Bookshelf (Gen 1)
  • SYMFONISK Table lamp (Ge

You need to remove the Play 5 (Gen 1) or run separate Sonos App and S1 systems

Maybe have a Play:5 Gen2. How do I identify Gen1 vs 2?   It shows only as Play5 on my app

Log into your on-line account, click on the profile icon and look under “System”. There you will see all Sonos registered to you and the generation; if applicable.

Thank you! Confirmed that I have the play:5 gen2 - compatible!  Somehow I still get that message when trying to connect from the s2 controller that it is a s1 system
