I am using an iPad with iOS version 10.3.4 and wondering if there is an earlier version of S2 that will still work on my iPad thx

No. That iOS can only run the S1 app:

If you have a working Sonos system, you can use the SonoPad app from the App Store on ancient iOS versions. It cannot setup a new system though.

Unfortunately, SONOS does not support an option to back level firmware or controllers.
