Restriction on what YouTube music premium account will display in Sonos app

I had to power cycle all my Sonos equipment to correct a “ghost” song that would start random play at various times of the day and night on one of more of my Sonos equipment throughout my house. Doing that solved that problem, but have now encountered another issue, one that is a major problem for me.

I redid my connection to YT Music Premium, and have found that Sonos now limits the number of albums I can see for any given artist. A good example is The Rolling Stones who have over 100 albums related to them on YT Music, to around 20 to 30. This eliminates my ability to brows their catalog within Sonos; a major disadvantage when using Sonos. Sonos AI says to enter the album I want to hear, and when it appears, I will be able to listen to it when I want. If I knew what that would be I wouldn’t be typing this now.

According to all sources of information I see, including Gemini AI, this is not a YT problem. It is a limitation of the Sonos app.

I see similar posts about this dating back two years ago with the Sonos customer service person telling the person who posted the question that this has been passed on to Sonos engineers to correct. Clearly that hasn’t happened.

Message to Sonos tech support: Are you working to correct this? If so, when do you expect a solution? Do you have a work-around for those of us who want to brows an entire artist catalog? If no to all of these, I will begin searching for a Sonos equipment replacement.

Note that ‘Sonos Support’ doesn’t read these forums, only Sonos Moderators. If you want to speak to Support, you need to call in…although you’ll never reach a programmer or Product Manager.

Thanks. I knew that, and didn’t have much hope this will be acted on anytime soon, regardless. My message is more for the benefit of YT Music Premium account people who were hoping to access to their music on Sonos as I had done in the past.

But I do have a question you might be able to answer. I see that the S1 app is being recommended for “older” Sonos equipment. All mine is between 3 to 5 years old. I had access to all my YT Premium catalog before with even older equipment I did not bring with me when we moved to our current location. Is switching to the S1 controller even an option for me, and if it is, do you think that would be a work-around for accessing an artist entire catalog?

Check the support list for S1 and S2, you can use either version on your Sonos if it is supported.

I looked at the list, but don't see a definitive answer. I think it's best to stick with S2 because all of my equipment runs on S2 now. I'm not sure that would be true of S1 or that it would solve the problem of not being able to access an entire artist catalog.

Which device are you using to run the SONOS controller?

MacBook Air computer, Motorola Android phone, the primary device, rarely on an Android tablet. Same results in all cases, can no longer access all YouTube premium music. Approximately 20 to 25 albums maximum for most artists. The best example are the Rolling Stones. YouTube premium music list somewhere around 100 or more of their albums. I only see 20 to 25 of them when accessing YouTube premium music through Sonos. Previous research says this is controlled by Sonos, not YouTube music. I hate to lose this feature. I enjoyed browsing an artist catalog, selecting albums to play I didn't know existed.

Have you tried any of the non-Sonos apps?

I didn't know they existed, I have wondered. Can you send me a link?

I found a detailed description of the Android version. The list of what it does, does not mention the one thing I’m trying to resolve: seeing all artist catalogs currently available through YouTube Premium Music. I’ll give it a try, and post here when I know. Thanks for the suggestion, Stanley.

Sorry for the delay responding, Stanley_4. I spent the last 3+ hours with Gemini attempting to redo the Sonos/YouTube Premium ‘handshake’ to see if that would resolve my Sonos issues. It didn’t, so I moved on to Phonos Ultimate. I believe I have most everything working there, but when I search an artist I get albums, songs, other artist takes on the artist I was searching, blogs, etc. I’d like to only see albums.

Gemini said, “Scroll Down: After you search for "The Rolling Stones," try scrolling past the "Top Results" or "Songs." You should see headers like Albums, Singles, and Artists.”

Nothing there and Gemini suggested “If your list is still messy, it's a great question for the Sonos Community "Third-Party Controllers" sub-forum.”

I’m not even sure that is where I am now; searching on it, nothing came up, so I used your link Stanley. If I am in the wrong place, apologies. If this is the right place, all suggestions about how to do a Photos Ultimate search for just albums will be appreciated.

My AI use is strictly for generating insane laughter (mine) at the answers (AI's) it provides.

I think there is a reddit forum for controllers. Didn't the app or app store suggest one?

I’ve had excellent results from Gemini premium for a number of things including and beyond Sonos. I don’t pay for it since I have Google cloud. But it and all AI is only as good as the detail I provide for it to respond to. Today’s Sonos/Phonos Ultimate exchange included a step-by-step explanation of how and what to check for both.

The app store, didn’t or maybe I missed it, but Gemini did including a positive explanation of Phonos and detail about both the app and the founder.

The author is a well respected member of this forum.

@controlav

AI still tends to regurgitate information it finds on the internet. It still hasn’t shown the ability to discriminate between correct and incorrect information. And for Sonos, there’s a lot of bad info out there.

Aside from wrong information, AI is programmed to provide answers and if it can't find one, wrong or right, it will make one up.

Edit to add: Like the nonexistent forum above, "Sonos Community "Third-Party Controllers" sub-forum.”

Even Google will return scary answers for "AI hallucinations" that are worth reading and understanding.

"It still hasn’t shown the ability to discriminate between correct and incorrect information."

Kind of like us humans whose intelligence is supposedly not artificial.

To each his own, right guys?

Anyway, thanks for the help today, much appreciated.
