I recieved a Sonos email inviting me to ‘hear more with lossless on Apple Music’ by connecting my Apple Music app to Sonos.  I then clicked  on a  ‘LEARN MORE’ button which linked me to a page that says you can listen to both the Apple Music universe of music plus your own ‘entire library’.

I followed the instructions to then connect Apple Music witrh Sonos but kept coming up with message saying ‘your Apple Music account access has expired’. It then asked me to re-authorise. I repeated  this multiple times, however it just kept looping back to the same expiry message without giving me access.

I then tried all the suggestions in the following related Sonos Community thread without success:

So finally, after going via the Sonos chatbot, livechat and finally a telephone call to customer service (0800 026 1526) I finally discovered that you can’t connect the apps without a paid for Apple Music subscriptions. So even though I only use my Apple Music app for my personal library of paid for tracks and uploaded CDs (which works fine), without a Premium subscription to the full Apple Music catalogue of songs you can’t connect to Sonos to get access. Armed with this information, I then took out a 3 month free premium subscription which verified this solved the problem.

HOPEFULLY BY SHARING THIS I CAN SAVE OTHERS FROM HOURS OF INVESTIGATION. AND I HAVE ALSO SUGGESTED TO SONOS THEY UPDATE THEIR RELATED PAGES TO MAKE THIS CLEAR TO EVERYONE ELSE.

Hi @JakeDyer, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear that you were having issues with Apple Music but it’s good to hear you sorted it out. It is correct that you need an Apple Music subscription to use the service on Sonos, even if you just use it for your own library. This decision is down to Apple, so you’ll want to reach out to them regarding this.

Our Apple Music on Sonos article does mention a free trial and redirects you to the sign-up page with the monthly membership, though I do agree that we could have a section or sentence that explains a paid account is required. There are other ways to share your owned Apple Music library with Sonos however instead of signing up for membership, such as adding your Apple Music folder as a music library in Sonos, or using Airplay to cast to your Sonos system.

I’ll forward this to the web team for their consideration as a request to update the Apple pages, and thank you for sharing this with the community.
