Recently Played entries fail to play

If I clear my Recently Played entries (to avoid issues with old data) and play something from my Favorites, an Amazon Station, it plays with no problem. If I then try to play it from the Recently Played list it fails.

Add this to my earlier topic on Recently Played issues / desires.

Hi @Stanley_4

It seems we’ve already been aware of this issue for a while now. We are investigating but have no estimate for when a fix might be put in place.

Hmmm

Cleared my recently played. Played an Amazon staton via the Amazon app and from my favorites with no issues. Tested on both iOS and Android.

Try updating your device and/or deleting and re-installing the App.

As a precaution, I’d be tempted to reboot the router first. But these are all things my guess would be @Stanley_4 has already done. I’d certainly want to recreate the issue, and submit a diagnostic, so any ‘error’ generated could be seen by a Sonos employee, and potentially passed on to a programmer.

What Amazon station were you trying to play?

Tried the whole row visible here. Android 16 on a Samsung tablet.

I didn't do the router reboot, or remove and reinstall the app today, done that for this issue several times in the past with no change. Spousal aggravation with Sonos is at a level I dare not interrupt her movie.

App and firmware are all on the latest versions.

Playing with it a bit more, the remove from favorites button works. You can't add the recently played entry back to favorites, it fails.

Sending this so the forum doesn't drop it and will try removal and reinstall. And nothing changed.

@Stanley_4

OK…you’re no longer alone 😂

See the 90’s Alternative in Recently Played as well as in Sonos Favorites

Clicking on it in Recently Played I get this…but keep reading…

If I click on in it in Sonos Favorites I get this…but keep reading

If I go back and click on it in Recently Played I get this….

So it seems that whatever is going on there appears to be a disconnect with the Amazon server for Recently played that requires a refresh through Sonos Favorites. Of course that makes no sense but I tested the occurrence several times with the same results.

Hi @Stanley_4

Thanks for reporting!

Sorry to hear you are unable to play Amazon Music stations from the Recently Played section in the Sonos app - I have been able to reproduce this issue and have reported it.

I shall update this thread when I hear more.

This has been an issue on local library for quite some time now.

The Recently Played feature is very fragile. For it to work properly, the original Play command has to be crafted meticulously correctly. If you play items from somewhere other than the official Sonos app then it will often be unable to play them from Recently Played (my own apps have had this problem on occasion), despite the fact the original Play command obviously worked.

Its also a cloud-only feature so that doesn’t help the reliability problems.

Yes, this is my problem.

I use Apple Much and a Music Library on a NAS.

Recently Played works with Apple Music but NOT with Music Library.

Since I use my Music Library the most, it is quite frustrating!

According to my notes, Recently Played has never worked with the local music library, so it is probably By Design.

It looks like the Recently Played list may be retaining broken or outdated references. Clearing it temporarily fixes playback from Favorites, but entries in Recently Played still fail. This seems like a bug with how the list resolves tracks—hopefully Sonos can address it in a future update.

Such a song and dance was made about the Home Screen when the new app was launched.

For Sonos to be “aware of this issue for a while now” without a fix being implemented is quite frankly embarrassing.

Wish I could hide it like other unwanted options, but sticking it at the bottom of the screen usually avoids hitting anything there and then having it delete your favorite entry when you tap the wrong button to get rid of it.

Odd that it can find the favorite to delete it but not the actual destination.

You can disable Recently Played under Personalization Services in the app.

I'm not seeing the option to disable it on Android, where should I be looking?

Should be under Account > Privacy & Security > Personalization Services

That removes the entries but doesn't hide the section.

But after you disable it the hide option is shown which then works.

It should not be a snipe hunt to use this app!
