Our Sonos system comprises two Play 1 and two One speakers. We control the system from our two iPhones. If one of us dynamically links two speakers to play the same music (i.e. not using named groups), then stops playing any tracks, the other iPhone is unable to unlink those speakers and link different speakers. The previously linked speakers appear to be “sticky”. Sometimes, after waiting a few minutes, functionality returns,.

It seems to me that the linking functionality, when applied from different iPhones, is flaky.

Our system is up to date. We are using app build 80.14.09. We have an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 16.

Is this a bug, or does anyone have a solution?

Thanks

Hi @NedLitton,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues when swapping between these two iPhones.

By ‘dynamically link’, are you talking about using AirPlay, using the Sonos App, or just the grouping feature? The app itself is just a controller, so grouping on one controller shouldn’t cause any issues or prevent you from grouping/ungrouping on another. You’re on the latest version, but I’d also suggest making sure you’re running the latest iOS release version (not a Beta version).

If you’re full up to date, what happens if you just group the speakers and don’t play anything, then swap to the other iPhone? Does this allow you to group and ungroup or does it still prevent you?

It seems like you’re able to replicate this issue quite reliably, so I’d recommend performing the actions to cause this issue, submitting a diagnostics within ten minutes of it occurring, then contacting our support team for further support.

I hope this helps!
