I assume this is just something that Sonos has to fix in the app. I had muted my Arc earlier and eventually it turned off when the TV went to sleep.

So later I have music playing in another room and try to group the Arc in and the group is formed but no sound is coming out of the Arc. I figure I just have to wait because I always have to wait with the new app…. But after several seconds I verify the Arc is grouped and it is but the volume slider is kind of grayed out.

I can adjust the volume slider of the Arc but still no sound. There is no icon to show the Arc is muted so no way to un-mute the Arc while grouped. I had to remove the Arc from the group and once it was independent the mute icon was visible and I could un-mute and then form the group again and it works as expected.

Please add the ability to mute/unmute individual speakers that are a part of a group.

I am running: 80.16.32release+20250123.d584035db

on iOS 18.3.1

That’s really odd. It sounds more like your controller is having difficulty reaching the Arc completely, since you can group it, but then the volume is greyed out. But I can’t figure out the behavior you’re experiencing when ungrouping versus having it grouped. Did you perchance submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem? Or, if not, could you repeat the situation, and do so? A quick test with my own Arc, and I couldn’t reproduce this issue. When I grouped my Arc, using the iOS controller, with another room, I had no difficulty in accessing the volume controls on my iPad.

I’d sure be tempted to reboot the Arc, the router, and my iPhone/iPad, to see if that makes a difference. I’d be interested to hear what Sonos says when you call in.

@Airgetlam  I did not submit a system diagnostic.  I thought about it for a split second but then just assumed it was a poorly designed feature and not a bug.  I quickly attempted to recreate the issue but the app performed as I woud have expected it to behave and the Arc was immediately unmuted upon being grouped.

I want to help Sonos improve the app so I reported what I thought was a poorly conceived design.  It sucks that the app was so thoroughly defiled that I just assumed it was an idotic design choice/compromise.  Unfortunately, those are the cards Sonos dealt and its gonna take me some time before I open the Sonos app and expect something other than a total cluster.

Grayed slider sometimes indicates a unit that has not updated. Check for updates. Rebooting the unit might help if the unit is running current firmware.
