One of the things that I’ve grown to love over recent years is the way I can discover and listen to podcasts. I use 2 main podcast aggregators to listen to podcasts - Firstly Pocket Casts and secondly BBC Sounds since some podcasts I cannot find on Pocket Casts (I’d rather only use 1 app for this).

So one of the great things about the Sonos podcast integration was the ease of seeing which was the next unplayed (or partially played) episode and play the next one or complete an unfinished episode. Unfortunately this has been broken since the major app update. As you can see from the two screenshots below. The first shows a podcast and it’s episodes - The May 24 one has been played and the next has not - but you cannot tell. On the BBC Sounds screenshot the second episode bookmarked has been played but again you cannot tell.
Also I find if I manually check via the Pocket Casts app the next unplayed episode and then play it by finding it in the Sonos API for Pocket Casts it plays that episode and then when it finished it automatically starts playing the PREVIOUS episode which has already been listened to. So if I then stop it Pocket Casts thinks it hasn’t been listened to.

I have reached out to Pocket Casts some months ago and they are aware of this problem but they basically say there is nothing they can do and it is up to Sonos. I have had no contact with the BBC.

2 Questions please:-

Anybody know if Sonos will ever repair this?

Assuming it won’t be fixed is there a podcast service that works properly to see played/unplayed episodes via the Sonos API? (very preferably not paid but if it works may consider paying).

Many thanks

This is my previous thread which had no traction:-

Does nobody have anything to add to this? It seems as if Sonos have abandoned support for seamless podcast integration with their App/Controller. Is that fair or am I missing something?

Hi @Stuart_W

Thanks for sharing your feedback and experience. While I personally can't give any promises, I know that the team working on our new app is continuously looking to increase the experience. For now I'd recommend using the native apps for Podcast playback -  please see our Listen to podcasts on Sonos help page - as we currently recommend the use of native apps for Podcast playback.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Corry for the reply.

I think I hear the message loud & clear
