What can I do to get the app to recognise my play 1 again after the rubbish app update.

Also I can no longer use my sonos over a wifi connection 

Any help greatly appreciated 

There are two different Apps that the Play:1 may use, the S1 App and Sonos App. It’s not entirely clear which one you were/are using?

Anyhow….

To get the player onto a new WiFi network you need to wire it to the router and then perhaps start with this link below, with whichever App you were using previously.
