I have a pair of Sonos 5 speakers I bought in November 2024 in Australia and brought to Ghana.
I play music mainly from music I store on WD MyCloud-39PC9X NAS drive. It played very well until about 7 days ago when it plays music stored on MyCloud drive erratically with the volume very loud at one instant, then no sound the next and then loud again. I tried playing music from my desktop drive and it was the same. However, it still plays Sonos radio well.
Can anyone help me fix it, please
Power down all Sonos, the MyCloud and your router.
Power up the router and give it a couple minutes to stabilize. Then power up the MyCloud and give it a minute too. Last power up your Sonos gear.
Not sure that will help, as it doesn’t really address volume fluctuations. However, it certainly wouldn’t hurt, either, and is always a good ‘first step’. And, on the third hand, it might certainly resolve potential network issues, which might be being exposed by the ‘not playing’ of the various sources…but only if you reboot them while the router is off. By which I mean both the NAS and your computer .
If it doesn’t change the situation, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of reproducing the issue, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.
There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
Just as a side note, WD no longer supports (releases updates for) my MyCloud NAS device. You can check on their website if they still support yours. On the other hand, that wouldn’t affect volume in any way.
