Older Sonos System won't connect

I bought my Sonos 2006, so it's most probably 1st gen. The main connector to the internet with an ethernet cable is a ZP100. Over the years, the  other ZP100, I think it is, with the small Sonos speaker upstairs stopped working.. The  remote control  that I bought with it stopped working too. Luckily an app was made, so the remote control (which costed a lot of money, was made redundant anyway). Left with the ZP100 downstairs and a non Sonos speaker, it worked for years. Then I added a PLAY 5 to the mix for the kitchen. All these kept working for many years, and then life happened - no time for listening to music THAT WAY. About 5 months ago, I had a guest and put the kitchen one on. We had a good time, listened to old school music.  The very next day, to continue the vibe, I put my Sonos on and to this day, I can't get them to work! Was a code sent to brick the older ones once they come online? There's no reason the systems shouldn't work. I just want to register my unhappiness. I'm IT literate, so I have tried all the "try-ables". Even tried connecting the Play 5 to the internet with an ethernet cable. Urghhhhhhh.  #BringBackAnalogue!!!

Did you call Sonos Support to discuss it? My guess is the version of the firmware running on the devices is so old it can neither be updated, or connected to with a ‘current’ controller. If it’s been that long since you’ve updated it, you’ll need to call in, they’ll create a ‘special’ build to get you set up.

Many companies still sell ‘analogue’ (sic) devices, but you invested in a ‘smart’ device that runs software on an internal computer.

While they won’t need any software updates, 20 year old analog tape decks and turntables will benefit from some maintenance but, other than AM/FM radio, have no access to online content — a very popular feature these days.

Very few consumer digital electronics products have had a viable 20 year practical lifespan. After a custom update by SONOS support, your ZP100 and PLAY:5 will still be viable, but cannot have all of the features available to the more modern units because the older units do not have the required processor power and memory.

Unless there is a hardware failure, SONOS support can get you going again.
