I own two SONOS systems, one at the cottage (where I am the administrator) and the other one at home (where my son is the administrator).

How can I access all the services set-up on the local SONOS system without having to login as the administrator? I tried closing the SONOS APP and reopening it without success on iPadOS and iOS.

We chose to use different administrators on the two separate systems for convenience (e.g. managing updates, setting up different services account). We share our SONOS accounts details in order to resolve (too many) frequent issues on the local Wi-Fi network.

Along with the many other frustrating issues with the SONOS 2 APP, I don’t know how I can easily access the services on each system without having to login as the administrator of a given system. Example : When I come back home from the cottage, I select the Home system on the Home Wi-Fi system where I see all the separate room speakers, but I cannot see the services (e.g. TuneIn, Spotify) associated with the Home system in the SONOS APP unless I connect as the Home system administrator.

Is it an (another) issue with the new SONOS APP or is there another annoying feature hidden somewhere in the SONOS APP to access services without being logged in as the administrator?

Note : The issue is similar using the iPadOS or iOS app. My wife also experiences the same problem.

Hi.  First thing: forget about administrators, this is irrelevant, other than for set up

Second thing: Sonos can handle this situation perfectly well

Third thing: Users seem intent on blaming the “new app” for everything short of world hunger.  Some would even lay that at the app’s door

The main thing to understand is that the app is essentially just a remote control for the system.  Everything that matters is stored on the system (ie speakers).  So, for both Spotify accounts to be available at both locations, both Spotify accounts need to be added to both systems.

Therefore, if your Spotify account is working at the cottage, then you need to go onto the home system as the home administrator on your phone, and add your Spotify account from the available services menu.  You may have to first reset your app, I cannot remember.

This is a one-off exercise.  After this the app should find your Spotify account whichever system you connect to.  If your son also has a Spotify account added to both systems, you will both have access to each other’s Spotify, but you can choose the default Spotify account for each app

The absolutely key principle is that what counts is what is on the syetem.  The app just shows you what is there and allows you to manage it.

I hope that helps.

On re-reading your post, it sounds like you may have already set up your Spotify accounts at both locations.  It may just be as simple as making sure that your Spotify account is set as the default in your app.

The target operating model is both Spotify accounts added to both systems.  This has to be done while logged in as administrator for the relevant system, but should be done for your Spotify using your app, and for your son’s Spotify using his app.  The default Spotify on his app should be his Spotify, on your app it should be your Spotify.

@mduhamel your issue sounds like the multi system bug in the new pos app. Though IIRC it is supposed to be fixed as of December 10 release for all platforms.

Is your app and firmware updated? If so it makes sense to call Sonos support and see if they can  help you.

Thank you @John B and @EbayYellow for these suggestions.

Indeed, the new APP is an easy target -- but at the same time it is responsible for so many issues that it is impossible to keep track of all of them. Since I own SONOS systems since 2012, I admit to being vulnerable to a ‘status quo’ bias towards the old menus.

All products and devices have been updated to latest firmware. My wife experiences same issue on iPad at the cottage and on iPhone at home. If the issue persists, I will update with a screen capture. Many thanks.

@EbayYellow may be right.  One of the very few bits of info that is stored in the app is which service account (e.g. Spotify account) to default to when more than one such service account is available.

But when I go into My Services in the Sonos app, and select Amazon Music, I have a drop-down that allows me to select to use my own Amazon Music account or that of my wife (I don’t use Spotify, but I think it should work the same.

My situation is not the same as yours - I am operating at just one location.  But I am still interested as to whether you have such a choice.  I cannot at the moment think of a reason why you would not have this choice, if you have added both service accounts to the system on which you are operating.

I’ll post a screenshot from my phone.

Further info: this is all controlled by tapping “Manage” for “Your Services”.  Note that you can set a “Primary Account” (i.e a default) for your controller.

I cannot claim to be totally confident on the exact relationship between Sonos system, Sonos account, service account and app.  I still think there is a chance this will work as you need, provided that you have (using Spotify as an example):

  1. Added all required Spotify accounts to both of the systems
  2. Specified your Spotify account as the primary Spotify account in your app

Alternatively, @EbayYellow may be correct in saying that the required functionality is currently missing in a multi-system context.  I cannot fully test.

Incidentally, I don’t think it should cause any problem to have both systems set up under the same Sonos account.  I don’t know whether it would help, either.
