All of my music files are MP3, including these new ones.
I thought using SMB the slashes had to be forward slashes.
Windows server? I suspect that the previous access was via HTTP, something Sonos no longer supports. Make sure the share is available via SMB v1 if S1 is being used, SMB v2 or v3 if S2 is being used. Remember, the Linux kernel on the speakers is trying to access the data, not the controller.
I am assuming, of course, you have reset them up as instructed in the controller.
FWIW (very little, in this case), there is no Sonos 5. There are two generations of the Sonos PLAY:5, and one of the Sonos Five.
There are zero problems with accessing my library or the share. It has been working flawlessly, up to and including now - I can continue to play anything that was in the library as of yesterday. The problem is that a handful of new artists/albums/tracks that I added today are not getting indexed.
And I stand corrected: my unit is indeed a Sonos Five.
That’s odd. I just added an album today. After an index using the Windows Sonos app the album showed in the Music Library on the Sonos IOS app.

Make sure the sample rate is no higher than 48 kHz.
If nothing else submit a diagnostic and call Sonos to have them look at internal errors we can't see.
Stanley_4: yeah, at this point I’ve done everything I can think of. I thought I’d remove the library, then go directly to the server and set it up on the local (to the server) drive. When I tried, it said it couldn’t connect to the \\server\Music share?!?!?!?!?
Next, I did a factory reset (which was a PITA, requiring multiple retries) and set everything up again, then go back to the server. But after I finally got through the factory reset, it STILL ignored my X:\Music local folder setting for the library and insisted on connecting (unsuccessfully) to the \\server\Music share!!
I’ll update here on what happens with my support ticket.
Update: Was on the phone for 1.5 hours (45 minutes waiting) and at the end was on my 5th or 6th time still trying to explain my issue to the representative. I got a case # but gave up. Very frustrating.
In the meantime...from my music library, I navigated to my music through “Folders” and found all of the music there...and was even able to play it. But it still does not show up in my library.
It’s like my library is stuck on a previous version, and persists even after a factory reset of my Sonos Five unit.
Update # 2, and The Solution. These MP3s were converted from another format, and along the way were stripped of all of their tags! When I added Artist, Album, Track tags, all is well.
Didn’t get this from Sonos support - I dug this up myself.
What conversion software was used? Never heard of one that strips the tags unless they weren’t ID3 tags on the original codec. Some software have their own proprietary metadata.

Where did you get these MP3 files from?
In answer to both of the above, these were originally WMA files, and I used VLC to convert them to MP3s. While still in the WMA format, they were fully tagged. Maybe there’s some setting in VLC that copies/retains tags during the conversion, but I didn’t find it.
I use Linux so my tool, EasyTag won't work for you but there should be something. I even added conversion rules to avoid the "Sonos can't deal with that letter" issues.
I used VLC to do some transcoding a while back and ended up copy/pasting the tags back in.
