I just installed the new Sonos app. After doing so, all but 2 of my playlists have disappeared?

Specifically, if I selected Sonos Favorites, then Playlists View All, only 2 playlist are showing . . . countless are MIA.

I sure hope there are instructions for resurrecting my playlist.

I have a Plex based NAS and previously tagged playing music to Sonos Favorites mainly because my Brilliant Home pads only saw Sonos Favorites for quick access (without having to drill down by individual sources).
After reading this - I am going to abandon using Sonos Favorites Playlist and changed to adding my Plex ‘favorite tracks’ to the Sonos Favorites. This allows me to rank music in Plex but automatically shows updates in Sonos Favorites link for my Plex Favorite tracks.
I had to use the Desktop App → Select a Music Source →  (in my case) Plex → Playlists → ♥️Tracks. Right click then ‘Add to Sonos Favorites’ (not to Sonos Playlist!!). Now my Sonos link to Plex updates as I Rank new songs.

I just did the “upgrade” to the new software on my Ipad. What a mistake!! All my Sonos playlist that I spent a lot of time putting together are gone!!! What the heck is happening here! That is all I play and add on to. Thank god I have my Iphone and dest top with the old software. I sure hope they fix this quickly!!

Sonos App: No playlist anymore, WHY? I’ve 4 sets of speakers and know i can’t play any of my music!

Our broadband is so bad I can’t always stream so there’s no point.

Thanks Sonos for making an app that no longer plays my music!

I’ve got the same problem as the other replies.
all my music is on my networked NAS.
Can’t access any of this now. Shocking that Sonos would do this with no warning. Now looking to sell my kit as it’s useless. Will buy something from a company that cares about its loyal customers.

I also have noticed that I have no access to my playlists.  Like a previous poster, they’ve been curated for years so I was really disappointed.  My husband was able to access them from his desktop app,so they are not gone but i have no way to access them.  One solution proffered was to use the desktop app.  I had previously been on the phone on hold for over an hour until i got to speak to a tech:  My desktop app has stopped working since the software update.  The solution given for that was to use the web version, which as others have commented, is rubbish.  To sum up: i have no desktop app; the web version has limited functionality; and i have a previous issue with the speakers wired to my connect:amp cutting out (their solution to that was it’s a known bug, you need to buy a new connect:amp).  Exceptionally disappointed with Sonos.  My husband is shorting their shares, because apparently everyone is disappointed with Sonos.

So to listen to some music today, I updated a speaker.. told to update to the new app, have done so.. found it’s lost access to my NAS library. Can’t see anywhere in the app to add library. So used a desktop app & re-added my library. Glad to see all my Sonos Playlists are there.. however cannot see them in the new app or even access my library in the app(!).

Access to your own music library is kinda fundamental isn’t it? Isn’t Sonos supposed to be high quality multi-room audio? The highest quality will be my own library rather than streamed MP3’s won’t it?

If this is the way Sonos is heading, I’m tempted to sell my set up and move over to apple airport devices, which is a shame as I’ve always liked my Sonos.

Please Sonos fix the app so we have access to our library and playlists again.

Hi @RossJ,

I got paranoid about losing my playlists (even though they eventually appeared in the depths of Sonos Favorites, only to disappear again, then reappear… and the cycled continues). So, I downloaded Phonos Plus for iOS. I paid .99 for the premium feature pack, but no matter what I do, I can’t seem to Export my playlists with it.

The below is what I get. Anyone else had success getting it to work?

The only way I listen to music is with my NAS drive. It has all the music and playlists I have accumulated over the decades. I should not have to pay for a monthly subscription music service to use my overly expensive playbar. This is RIDICULOUS. Any good company adds new features, they do not discontinue features that people are using.

I have not tried to export from Sonophone - but an email to the developer using App Store will likely get a swift response.

For exporting playlists, I use Phonos Plus

This is Phonos Plus in the screenshot @RossJ . So, I guess you are saying it works for you without error.

Yes, Phonos plus works fine for me - I export from the playlists part (one by one).

If you open the Sonos app on desktop or laptop you can see your playlists on the right under “Sonos playlists” then if you right click on one of the playlists select save to Sonos favourites it will then show in your mobile Sonos app

This update needs to be rolled back immediately. I've lost all my playlists and there seems to be a focus on media services. I use my media from my Nas drive and I can't access it.

Is there a quick way to roll back this update on my IOS device?

This is absolutely terrible from SONOS. I won't be updating it on any other device I have.

I agree, but if you don’t update your other devices I don’t think they will function.  It’s one of those updates that you are forced to accept.  I’m really pissed at Sonos, I’ve lost tons of playlists.

IOs automatically updated my app so as others, have lost playlists. Last year had moved all music from Spotify to Sonos playlists so have lost all music. Is there any way to bypass the update on the desktop app so they can still be accessed and moved? Have also tried the web version but no Sonos playlist option showing

Playlists aren’t stored on the app, they are stored on the Sonos hardware.  As long as you don’t reset all of your devices, or transfer them to another system, your playlists are still there.  Right now the app is a little unstable, and may need a release or two to straighten things out.  Not what you want to hear, but as long as you didn’t wipe the units, your hard work isn’t lost.

Thanks 🙂 No, devices have not been reset. Not got issues with stability of the app as not using it due to losing playlists. Surprised the update was passed by the product owners and QA though.

I highly doubt the decision to release was made at that level.  It was forced out to keep the headphones on schedule, and that’s on the bean counters and execs.

Thankfully all of my playlists are still on the Spotify app. Found and played one of the missing lists (in Sonos) using the Spotify app instead. During playback on my phone, the option to connect and playback via the Sonos Speaker System appeared and it worked!

Until Sonos fixes their screw up, try using the Spotify app to locate and play your playlists, then use the Spotify in-app option to connect and playback thru the Sonos.

Worked for me. I have a Stereo pair linked Sonos Moves on WiFi

Another update today…still no playlists or ability to list all my favourite artists….utterly useless

In an astonishing act of self-immolation SONOS appears to have dumped personal playlists - ignoring the effort of curation and betrayed the trust of users. I would advise anyone who has not updated to the May 2024 app to hold-off for now. “First come the innovators, who see opportunities that others don’t. Then come the imitators, who copy what the innovators have done. And then come the idiots, whose avarice undoes the very innovations they are trying to use to get rich.” Warren Buffett.

As others have stated, playlists are stored in the speakers.  The desktop app will show them for now.  *Other independent app controller that I use, have playlist functions and are great: SonoPad and Sonophone.

I am ASTOUNDED that this app version migration was so profoundly (and unnecessarily) botched.

I heard that a new version was coming, and so I actually eagerly migrated to the new version of the iOS app as soon as I noticed (inside the app) that a new version was available, since I was cautiously optimistic that it would fix the stability glitches which I have been increasingly experiencing the last couple of years. (Unfortunately, I failed to do any type of research to determine if that migration was advisable; naïvely assuming that any newer version of the app would be an improvement over an older version of the app.)

I was subsequently DUMBFOUNDED to discover that all of the playlists which I have (painstakingly) created over the years are now no longer accessible from the new iOS app.

I purchased my Sonos system in 2016,  and have added quite a few Sonos speakers system over the years -- literally spending thousands of dollars. I have also been an evangelist to others, who have subsequently purchased the system upon my recommendation.

Unfortunately, those recommendations stop now.

It was bad enough that the system had become unstable and glitchy over the last couple of years.

But to completely remove a function I use DAILY from the system – with no advance notice, and with no way to uninstall the new version and go back to the prior version – seemingly indicates a company which has lost its way.

And I fail to see any reason why this new version was rushed to market before it was "ready for prime time.” This unfortunately seems like such a self-inflicted, un-forced error.

In addition to creating OUTRAGE, this makes me incredibly SAD, since music is such an integral part of my (and others’) daily experience. A music experience (via Sonos) which was a bit of a balm for a few of life's frustrations, has now increasingly become a TREMENDOUS frustration itself!

Unfortunately, this is a very sad chapter in the legacy of this company -- and will likely become a business case which will be studied by others in the future, as a sobering lesson to other business leaders -- as a “poster child” example of business practices to avoid.

Couldn’t agree more. Their iOS app is, and has always been, crap.

Their connectivity over WiFi is, and has always been, crap. Their solution to this was “oh, your are connecting over (setting unable to be changed) WiFi Channel 1 is the problem, you dare to have 5 other devices in your house using the same channel, so the only solution is to pay ANOTHER $1,000 for the Sonos Amp……………..which kinda solves the problem……..except for the “legacy speakers” that it doesn’t support and the portable speaklers it doesn’t support. Sorry !!!

Their interoperability (ie new speakers working with existing system is, and has always been, crap.

Their customer “service” is, and has always been, crap.

Their woeful failure to address issues nominated by literally THOUSANDS of users  in their own support groups, and several times that on other sites like Reddit is, and has always been, crap.

Their greedy attitude once they’ve sold you a speaker is, and has always been, crap.

To top all these issues I have also lost over 100+ playlists which I deliberately put in the Sonos playlists, rather than an external service like Spotify. so that I didn't have to have crap WiFi over Sonos try to connect to crap Spotify over same crap WiFi.

So now there’s a (see previously, likely to be…..crap) web app where your lovingly created previous playlists may or may not appear, though FKnows how to get them into your iOS app so you can, like ACTUALLY PLAY THE SONGS YOU TREASURE!!

WTF is wrong with this company???????????????

We invest THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WITH THEM and are treated with complete disdain. No consultation. No options. No abillity to roll-back to previous app versions.

Seriously, if this was a social service, a bank or an financial organisation they would be regulated into line, into submission, into compensation or into oblivion.

The latter seems most likely, as soon as someone hacks a way to connect ANY other music app/streaming/storage into their eco system, they are DAD (Dead as Dodos).

I may start a crowdfunding campaign to do just this.

Still gone. Still furious about the app update. And they have the gall to try to sell me headphones.

I’m only posting here because that appears to be the only way to ‘subscribe’ to a thread.

Moderator edit: Click on “Add to favourites” under opening post.

This is a BIG BS update. I will definitely NEVER buy a Sonos product again if that isn’t sorted out!!! Quickly!!!

A few months ago the links to Soundcloud titles were messed up by some update and could only be fixed by exporting the playlists, correcting the links and re-importing it again, with a third party app, because Sonos seems to give a shit about customer needs and never provided export/import functionality.

And now with this DOWNGRADE of the iOS app all playlists gone! And usability of the app is very!! questionable.

Totally and absolutely AGREE!  Nobody needs and Nobody wants new updates or versions of the iOS App: It was not perfect, yet: functional! Did everything I wanted. Got used to it. And there is literally no advantage for a customer who only wants to listen to music with this new Version. Fix this!

Have had Sonos for years and am convinced the management must be AWFUL. The new app is so bad it’s just not possible they didn’t know before release. I run a business with significant soft ware requirments & programming and they must have had a 3 year old do the programming. That’s not to mention the current 40 minute wait if you want to actually speak to someone--so customer service is also awful and that’s in direct management control. They’ve CHOSEN to be unreachable. Not the kind of company I want to deal with anymore.

To all of you that don’t want to invest further in Sonos, like me, I’m changing to Bowers & Wilkins. I have over ten Sonos products but am giving them away and starting over. The frustration dealing with Sonos, adding their products and now this terrible app over the past few years is too much.

I don’t believe the issues I see with the app will ever be truly resolved.

Goodbye Sonos!!
