I’ve updated SONOS on my Android phone. The new app is awful compared to the old one and has so many bugs, as noted by customers on this site minute-by-minute over the past week or so.

I’ve also updated my SONOS app on my Windows 11 computer. This is where I have my music library. The update removed the library. I tried to re-add it, and it came up with Error 913. I can’t access the music library…..I can’t use SONOS for what I bought it for!!!! Frustrated doesn’t go anywhere near how I feel right now. I’m not an I.T. Test Analyst. Neither have I volunteered to be a BETA tester for SONOS. But my investment in SONOS equipment has been destroyed by this update. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Yes after contacting and no the app isnt fixed

Updated the app at the weekend and now have no access to my music library.

SONOS - revert to the old app, or allow SMB1. I have my music file stored on my Mac lap top, directly downloaded from Apple Music/I tunes. No other way of accessing my music. Apple advised not to get a NAS and why should i buy another bit of kit to run a system that cost thousands and thousands of pounds. SONOS this is a disgrace. Sort it out so I have access. No waiting til June, send an update on the App now. A complete joke… 2 hours on hold to get through to customer support who told me to contact Apple to get them to change the file sharing protocols… Apple unable to do that and not their problem. SONOS it’s your problem fix it. Potential new customers avoid Sonos...

No Sonos for me anymore. This is the most stupid thing they can do to us. I hate them for that. I have a well balanced library and this is all gone. No Sonos for me anymore...!

Gr,

John Breur

Is it time to initiate a class action law suit since all the money I invested in my SONOS system is now wasted???

All those interested in a class action let us know.

After you consult a lawyer, and they agree to take the case, post the link to the class action here.

It’s 5/22/24 at 12:40 PM and no updates available for me in Florida.

I’m using S2 Build: 79052294 on Windows 11.

Version 16.2

Build: 79052294

Windows 11.  I uninstalled Sonos, rebooted, and reinstalled Sonso app for Windows 11.  No new update available.

Sonos used to have stellar, first-class support but has deteriorated too substandard.

I’ve fixed mine after talking to support, but this is not something for the average user.  I hope there’s an easier way, as I found it a bit of a chore, and I work on computers all day.  Here’s how I did it in windows 11..

  1. Make sure SMBv1 is disabled by doing the following:
  2. Launch the Control Panel by typing Control Panel in the Windows search box.
  3.  Click Programs in the list and then select Turn Windows features on or off under Programs and Features.
  4.  Ensure there is no checkmark in the box next to both SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and SMB 1.0/CIFS Server.
  5. If you had to disable it, it may require a reboot after you deselect, and hit OK.  Mine fortunately wasn’t selected.
  6. Create a share on the folder that your music is in, and give a user permission to use it.
  7. I created a local user using instructions from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/create-a-local-user-or-administrator-account-in-windows-20de74e0-ac7f-3502-a866-32915af2a34d   But apparently you can use the user you’re logged in as (I couldn’t, it didn’t work for me).
  8. With a user ready, right click the folder containing music and select Properties
  9. Select the Sharing Tab
  10. Hit the Share button, and make sure the user you want to use is in the list with at least Read access, and hit the Share button.
  11. Back on the sharing tab, it will show the name of the share as \\<computer name>\Music      (or whatever the share name is (mine was called TheLibrary))  Hit Apply.
  12. This share name is what you type in the sonos app when you are adding your music library.
  13. fin

What a nightmare.

Been there, done that (several times since the catastrophic update, before and after your post) and still goes to Error 913. Whoever decided to release the update needs to be fired - by which I mean shot.

@PabloUK I do not think a Mac would use SMBv1 - this cannot be your problem. It must be something else.

It worked fine for the last 8 years. Sonos updated the app removing file sharing using smb1 which their original controller app used. The mac was and still is compatible with that. The new app is the problem… has stopped file sharing… I am one of many in the same boat. All my music is stored on my Mac, downloaded from I tunes (apple music) and then uploaded/shared with Sonos. Since the new version of the app was launched and the old app deleted it doesn’t work.

Still can not listen to my own music anymore. The app on MacOS won’t let me add the music library anymore.

Last week I sent an email to Sonos complaining about the removed local library issue, and today I received this email reply:

Thank you for reaching out to share your feedback about the new Sonos app. I understand you rely on being able to play folders from a local library and search your local library via the Sonos app.

I know you are disappointed that these features are not available, and I want to assure you that your feedback has been heard loud and clear. We are committed to providing our users with the best possible experience, and we are working tirelessly to reinstate some important features in the app in the coming weeks.

The ability to play and search music from a local library is planned for next month. You can
reference this article: The New Sonos App and Future Feature Updates for additional details on upcoming updates.

In the meantime, a couple workarounds to play local music are to use AirPlay (iOS devices) or via the Sonos web app.

Thank you for your engagement and for being part of the Sonos community.
???????
Best regards,

Sonos Customer Experience

So, it looks like they will be fixing this issue?

They should have never launched it

Just made the mistake of updating my SONOS app today and it sh@t the bed!!!

Now I can’t play ANYTHING that I could access previously in my own music library.

It won’t even let me add the location where my music is located.  Total crap fest.

If this is not fixed, I will certainly go on every social media site I can find and talk about it.

The interface sucks, too.

We are all in this together.  Perhaps we should postpone any Sonos purchases for 2 ore 3 months to teach them a lesson.   Money talks and our complaining won’t do any good.  Maybe we should write to all the financial analysts on Wall Street and a stock downgrade would teach them a lesson.  If these incompetents would read this forum they would have rolled back to the prior app with a broadcast email explaining the issues.

You can play your music library on airplay EXCEPT half my speakers don’t support airplay. Type in Sonos ceo interview. That moron thinks its great

Agree 100%. I have spent a lot on this system and they are basically bricks now. Very disappointed to say the least. Really makes you want to run out and buy that new headset they advertise on the app, right. The advertisement portion of the app works GREAT!!! Everything else, not so much.

  1. Shout out to the always-excellent tech support and customer support teams at Sonos. They’ve always looked after me so well in the past, and they must be drowning in anger and frustration from so many disappointed users (me included) after this dreadful botched app & service update.
  2. I’ve been a dedicated Sonos user for years. No more. I was waiting for ages for the new headphones and would have definitely have bought them if they’d come out in March. Now they launch them after this fiasco?! Zero percent chance. I’m never buying anything from Sonos again. I have completely lost trust that they care about users with their own libraries of music.
  3. Thanks to the various people in the thread above who’ve suggested workarounds for re-adding local libraries. It’s worked for me using the Windows desktop app - ensuring SMBv1 is disabled; sharing the relevant folders with Sonos Wireless Hifi System; re-adding to Sonos as ‘another folder connected to your computer’ (I didn’t need to go the NAS route. I had difficulties with folders that contained an ampersand (&) in the name and/or that weren’t a root folder, so I renamed/moved them and that fixed it, but i don’t know if that was a real glitch or some other artefact).
  4. I have downloaded the 3rd party SonoPhone app for ios. It’s a little bit clunky but v. simple to use and INTUITIVE (unlike the rubbish updated app Sonos has foisted on us) and works exactly as I need & want. I have switched to using it and now finally after nearly a month I have my old Sonos listening experience back - in spite of the best efforts of Sonos senior leadership.

I have found a work around

login to your Sonos App on a PC

Then you can add a networked NAS drive, I indexed all the music

When I then opened the App on my IPad the music library from my NAS drive is back and I can play music from it

hope this helps until Sonos comes up with an update for us

Just piicked up

a roam sl app wont let me add itFU ceo

This is CRAZY!
My music is stored on a Netgear ReadyNAS which only supports SMB v1 but my Sonos has worked fine with this setup until this update.
Yes I know that SMB v1 is old and no longer supported but the NAS is only hosting music so hardly a security risk - and Sonos perfectly was happy with it before.
Why can’t we roll back???
SONOS, this is not a good way to treat your customers, as for buying your new headphones - FORGET IT, you’ll get no more money from me!

I have a mac and a synology Nas Drive and like everyone else lost access to my own music folder. Im managed to get the folder up and running and reindexed by changing a setting on the NAS drive.

If you have a synology NAS then this is what I did which worked,

Log into NAS and go to control panel>File Services - Make sure SMB is enabled. Then go into Advanced Setting and make sure Maximum SMB protocol is set to SMB3 and the Minimum is set to SMB1. Click apply.

Now go back into sonos app>manage music Library setting and enter the pathway of your music folder.

Music should then index and a new path set up.

Nah

I found a way to listen to my Sonos speakers with files that were in my Sonos Windows Library.

The latest version of itunes works as a player.

That’s correct, the latest version of itunes with my windows computer communicates with my Sonos devices.

First I copied all my music files from the hard drive on my computer to itunes.

Then, I clicked the small icon located top center leftish on itunes which allows me to see my Sonos speakers in a window.

I’m able to use the new crappy sonos app to group all speakers and adjust volume etc.

The itunes app also works to group all speakers and adjust volumes.

The SonoPhone app also works well as a controller.

One thing to keep in mind is that I’m using a Windows 11 computer and an iphone 13.

Not sure if other devices will work the same.

Updated by Tooting Jools: Update: I have found that my “iTunes Remote” app on my iPhone gives me full access to my music library in my W11 laptop via iTunes. So I have full access to my music on my laptop using my phone as a controller without using the Sonos app

I hope others are able to enjoy music again using their Sonos speakers.

The new app is so pathetic that my play 3 s drop off or play out of synch. My new roam sl is useless. Sonos can’t even help on connecting.they are so fucked .wish I could start over with a good company
