New App "Lost" my Music Library after update

I’ve just updated to the new Sonos app.  It “lost” access to my Music Library during the Update and no longer gives the option to access it in Manage My system.  What’s going on Guys?  Have you lost the plot?

This worked for me: I opened the Windows desktop app (it forced an update to the latest version) and the NAS had disappeared from there too. I just re-added it*, and after it had been indexed, it reappeared in the app too. It only took a few minutes, most of which was the indexing and I didn’t need to alter any other settings anywhere. It seems to be working as before. Fingers crossed

*Manage > Music Library Settings > Add

Right so my Music Library disappeared again.

Added again via the Windows desktop app.

I’ve got an old(ish) Synology DS216J. Looks like the settings are ‘max SMB’ is v2 and minimum is V1. I think I may try changing it to max version 3 and min version 2.

I would start with trying both at SMB v2 as that should work okay.

it is past June now…… any sight of the update giving access to our old library?

You can access it today but they’ve turned off http and smbv1 shares. Need to change whatever you are using to share smbv2/3.

Yeah @Bumper is right, library access is there now, for the reasons he explained. The only work I’ve seen mentioned around libraries, for the most part, is to add/index SMBv2 (or higher) libraries (that’s available now in the Desktop Sonos Apps anyway) and to be able to search the local library via the Sonos mobile Apps.

Edit: the new features mentioned above were pushed back to this month, by the way, see here:

Perhaps don’t just take our word for it either - here’s a user who has realised they didn’t quite have things correct and has managed to sort things and now have their library back in the new Sonos App…

This is all a long sting of business ending incompetence. How can a company that build this ecosystem in the first place burn it to the ground so completely. If it was not for the physical products i have i would be merrily deleting sonos from my life.

If you’re referring to removing SMBv1 and http shared libraries then it’s only Sonos following the path of others, like Apple, Microsoft, Google etc. who removed the protocols because of their security vulnerabilities as widely mentioned online. The answer is to switch the library share over to SMBv2 or higher.

Switching over is great if your NAS/file store supports SMBv2. Many of us old Sonos users have older NAS/file store that is SMBv1 only and worked for years 100% fault free & no security issues with Sonos, Windows, Android etc. Suddenly at whim of Sonos no more access to my CD collection. Not happy.

Sonos are only following on from what every other major company have done already. Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon now all do not support SMBv1 with their products. I’m surprised you can even find an App these days that supports that old protocol because of the widely publicised vulnerabilities. It’s more a case that developers/companies no longer support it.

So now it is Mid-July (another month late) and still no answer from SONOS about all the Music Library problems.  I have been with SONOS since day-one, when it first launched around the time Magnolia started in Best Buy in 2005.  For almost 20 years never had a problem with SONOS until now. I worked in Magnolia/Best Buy for 17 years (and just recently retired) and have sold and recommended many SONOS systems to our customers.  I have two homes filled with SONOS, and cannot access my own music on them anymore.  And still, SONOS does not respond to all their customers inquiries other than saying they should have a solution by “mid June”.  You should keep your customer base informed at every step to show you are working on it…..

Have you looked into why you cannot access your music library? Does it still rely on the http method or SMBv1? Because if that is the case, no updates from Sonos will help you: Sonos has stopped these methods because of safety concerns.

Where do you go wrong when following any of these manuals: https://support.sonos.com/en/article/add-your-music-library-to-sonos

I can access the library, but the real ball ache is that on the mobile app there is no scroll bar. When you have hundreds of artists it's a real pain scrolling through every time
