Feature request:

From today’s firmware update on my system….

When an update fails, is it possible to include the name of the device that failed?

When I went back, an hour later, to run it a second time, it told me one of my Subs hadn’t updated properly, and I needed to run the update process again, which I did, and was successful. So apparently there is some data existing that identifies which device didn’t update properly, or it wouldn’t have shown me the Sub needed updating. All I’m asking is to show that data at the ‘update failed’ time, in addition to the current ‘this device needs updating’ time.

If it matters to anyone, I did run a diagnostic after the failure part. But not one after the success, since I’m not sure it would have been helpful.

Hi @Airgetlam

Sounds like a good idea to me!

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

I have a theory on the failed update on Sub. Mine used to fail 50% around a year ago, some technical details here:

My conclusion was ARP spoofing, as the Sub IP has multiple MAC address during update, its own MAC, and the also the MAC of the Arc that it proxies through in normal operation.

My solution is to *NOT* set reservation for IP addresses of Arc or Sub, since then, including all updates since May, I have not had a failed update issue (touching wood).

It’s an interesting thought. Currently, my ‘router’ in use (T-Mobile 5G) doesn’t allow me to set reserved IP addresses. I’m looking to replace it soon and use it as merely a modem, rather than the router function, as it clearly doesn’t support things I prefer. But given my remoteness (practically no other solution for internet) and the frequent-ish power outages associated with living on an island refresh my system fairly frequently.

Most updates, I have zero issues, for some reason, this update was different, and of the twenty plus devices, only the one Sub in my bedroom was recalcitrant, there was no issue with the other Sub. The only difference I might point to is there was snow falling, which may have been absorbing the WiFi signal…but the Sub is connected to an Arc, which is six feet away, and updated without issue. I just don’t know.

Just leave the HH to update automatically overnight. It avoids all kinds of issues.

I usually do. It’s difficult sometimes to ‘wait’, when I know there is an update.

Patience, grasshopper.
