Hi!

Mac Mini user (Sonoma 14.0) here with a Sonos app.

I know all about the problems with the Sonos music library feature from last year’s update, but I have been using the workaround of creating a library by adding the music share as a NAS /network share.

Yesterday, however, I started having problems with the library.

  1. All the songs disappeared, so I couldn’t search. But, in Music Library Settings, the shared folder was still present.
  2. ‘Update Music Library Now’ ran for a second, but the library was still empty.
  3. I removed the shared folder and added it back again, using the NAS-workaround, but kept getting the error: Sonos was unable to add the music folder. Access to the shared folder is denied, check user name and/or password.
  4. Deleted the Sonos app and restarted my computer several times, to no avail.
  5. I also tried adding the folder via the iPhone app, but got the error message: //<Computer name>/<Folder name> is no longer available.
  6. I deleted the Sonos app from my iPhone and restarted my iPhone several times, too. Still nothing.

The funny thing is, the room playlists with music from my library would still play.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

B

My guess would be some change in Sonoma, as Sonos hasn’t changed their method of access this week.  My suspicion, without any hard data, would be a change in SMB on Sonoma, but you’ve not supplied any hard data one way or the other to confirm that.

I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Same thing is happening to me.

I’m getting really frustrated with Sonos software. I invested pretty heavily into this ecosystem. and it’s very rapidly become useless for the primary use case I have: I wanna hear my digital music collection (files, not streaming services) on quality audio devices, especially my stereo system (via my Sonos Connect). :(

Thanks, I’ll contact support and update my post.

I’ve contacted Sonos Support. They were very accommodating and patient, but after 3,5 hours of trying different configurations the problem is unsolved.

They suspect it’s a problem with Apple. Upgrading the OS to Sequoia 15.4.1 did not solve it either, unfortunately.
