In another unsolicited move to add a splendid new feature, Sonos - in in his incomprehensible wisdom -has given us the web app (a couple of month ago it seems).

 

But: I don’t want it and consider it a security and privacy downside.

 

Soooo, how to disable?

You can’t. You also can’t add 2FA to your Sonos account. Security is not high on the priority list.


You are right, lack of 2FA in combination with a always-on web app to control all of everyone’s home audio equipment … interesting combination really.

 

I should probably start short selling Sonos in the light of the seemingly inevitable Crowdstrike-gate at Sonos.

 

All sarcasm aside, Sonos, if anyone from your team is reading this. Any chance to get 2FA at least for the web-app and/or get a simple switch to disable the web-app?

It’s interesting that other sections of the development staff are over the top about security. A few years ago security PIN’s were introduced. They are on the bottom of the payers, often printed in dark gray on black. PIN’s are required during setup. This can be vexing if a unit that’s mounted high on a wall needs to be reset or added to a system. I suppose that the goal is to guarantee that an authorized person is attending the system. The newest players will emit a tone through their speakers that the controller can recognize.


I learned to take a photo of the data plate on my Sonos early on, many are too hard to get to.

What I really miss is our ability to see internal data, that was taken from us in the name of security.

I’m all for more security, too many threats out there from friends with access to your WiFi making a mess to outside attackers. Just add security, don’t remove features or access.
