For the past week, since the latest Mac update, my Mac OS desktop controller will crash and can’t be accessed. Through a few chats with Sonos support, the issue appears to be the Local Network settings under Privacy & Security. Force Quit the Sonos app - go to that setting and toggle the Sonos access - restart the app and, voila, problem solved. But…...a glitch that should be addressed?
Hello
I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your Mac and the Sonos Desktop Controller crashing out, but I’m glad you were able to resolve this with the help of our Support Team.
With the introduction of the Sonos Web App, we are slowly moving away from the Sonos Desktop Controller.
When the Sonos Web App and the Sonos App reach parity, there is not going to be a need for the Desktop controller and it will no longer be available. Therefore specifically for issues that have an available workaround, they are not going to be addressed.
I hope this helps.
Apple’s implementation of the “local network” permission is as unreliable as it was on iOS when it came out there. Particularly after an update, the setting will often show as On when it is not. Toggling it is the solution in this case.
This is not a Sonos issue, though they could have put a specific error message in to cover this case. As I did in my own Macintosh app for Sonos.

Will the web app allow for EQ control of Sonos speakers and all of the “parity”/functionality that the current App provides?

OK, so my patience is running thin on this. While it may be a Mac OS issue (not IOS), it’s a situation where I’m force-quitting my desktop app - toggling the “Local Network” - reopening - several times/day. That never happened until this situation. The web app. is inferior. The IOS app is less useful to me at my office than the computer I’m actually working on. Seems like there could be a solution?
