There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about which Sonos speakers play lossless and also how to tell.
I have the following set up:
Play:1 and One paired in one room
Play:1 and One paired in second room
Era 100 in another room
Will any of these play lossless? If so, how do I make sure it happens or is it automatic?
I always play directly from the Sonos app with integrated Apple Music
thanks

Can all Sonos products stream lossless audio from Apple Music?
Most Sonos products can stream lossless audio from Apple Music. However, some older products don’t support the required streaming protocol (HLSv7) and will stream audio at a lower quality. The following Sonos products won’t stream lossless audio from Apple Music:
Do you have issues with the Play 1 speakers playing from the integrated Apple Music app? The Play 1 is limited to 16/44.1 while the ERA 100 can play 48/24. I would imagine the Apple Music app in the Sonos app will play to both the Play 1 & the ERA 100. If you’re playing from a local library those bit rate / sample rate limitations may come into play. Unless Sonos has done something with down conversion. I don’t have any legacy devices to test that.

Note that you can’t (using Sonos software) pair a One and a PLAY:1, but they can be grouped. You may find it beneficial, if you’re after a stereo setup, to set the two PLAY:1s in one Sonos ‘room’, and the two Ones in another. Then you’d be able to stereo pair them, rather than grouping them. I know, it’s a pain, but Sonos terminology is particular, and explained in the Sonos terminology thread.

They are grouped, sorry that was me using the wrong terminology.
if I paired them I seem to recall that there was an issue with the play:1 speakers. Without the One to control I’m sure I couldn’t group them or something?!?

It’s the only thing I could think of, from my usage, that made sense…although I’ve done it the way I suggested, and when using AirPlay or Bluetooth, I just group the two rooms…the one that”s the target, and the one I’m listening to. That way, I get stereo, all the time, no matter what. And yes, stereo is important to me, why do you ask? ;)
