We invested heavily in Sonos for our home - and frankly spoke highly of it to others. I have used your competitor C4 previously and wasn’t thrilled with its performance and found Sonos to be way more user friendly. Since the release this spring, we have no functioning system - and have contacted Sonos support to no help.  Basically we are being told we need to upgrade our network and all amps that was brand new in 2018!!? That’s insane. And you’re loosing business now to future customers who will not buy your products again because we don’t trust you won’t do this again? You need to earn back your customers by offering them a solution rather than just telling them to upgrade all their components again. Brutal - if Sonos is reading this hopefully, you’ll do something to right this wrong so customers can trust your brand.

He recently said in a Reddit Post that they’re not going to:

Everything has been on the table in terms of finding the fastest path to fixing your systems. In fact, until very recently I’d been hopeful that we could re-release the old app (S2) as an alternative for those of you that are having issues that we’ve not yet resolved.

The trick of course is that Sonos is not just the mobile app, but software that runs on your speakers and in the cloud too. In the months since the new mobile app launched we’ve been updating the software that runs on our speakers and in the cloud to the point where today S2 is less reliable & less stable then what you remember. After doing extensive testing we’ve reluctantly concluded that re-releasing S2 would make the problems worse, not better. I’m sure this is disappointing. It was disappointing to me.

If there's a silver lining here, it's that we are fully focused on getting the new software running successfully in your home.

Personally I find that strange, since the old app works fine for me with the old firmware.

Only person I personally know that is on S1 hasn’t had any issues and it just works for her. No need to do anything, buy anything or mess with anything.

I’d give whoever is telling you to upgrade the old stink-eye and demand details on just why you need to upgrade.

I agree based on my daily experience of S1 from 2020 till today. But the OP seems to be on the new app, so this may not be relevant, unless they can and know how to roll back to S1.

I think Sonos was referring to the S2 app being brought back for those having issues with the 80.x app ( May 7 ).  I have the S2 app on an older phone that is not compatible with the 80.x app.  The S2 app on the older phone works fine except for all the settings stuff that’s grayed out. Also orange is a great color…. Well, at least in Formula 1 racing.

If your Sonos firmware is still on 16.1, the S2 app runs fine.  At least it does for me.

The CEO says “After doing extensive testing we’ve reluctantly concluded that re-releasing S2 would make the problems worse, not better. “  Normally I would assume Sonos knows something I don’t.  But given what’s gone on I see no evidence they know what they’re doing.

Yeah this CEO statement is total BS. Going back the v79 app (leaving the speaker firmware alone) would be fine, with the exception of Ace support. Like @MoPac I have an iPhone 6s that runs the older app for comparison purposes. They could easily light up the disabled features by changing the minversion check and republish it as v81.

There is no evidence they know what they are doing, since May 7.
