Let me start by saying that I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 18.2.1. The Sonos controller is 80.14.09. Hardware Version 16.5.1. I have no issues with my Sonos regarding the app, hardware; nor my Network*

You can call me an Apple FanboySonos Fanboy or both.  I’m not concerned about your opinion in those terms. Regardless of such it doesn’t change the FACTS presented in this post. Read on; if you are so inclined.

iOS for iPhones are standard for each model that can run it. The current version is iOS 18. Below are the iPhone models with the appropriate chip set capable of running it. Click here for more information.

The latest update for iOS 18 includes security measures and is now designated as iOS 18.2.1 and is recommended for all users with iOS 18. Click here for more information.

The current iOS 18.2.1 is not a Beta. It is a full functioning iOS version. That’s not to say that Apple hasn’t by mistake released a Beta version to the public; but that occurrence is very rare.

Today when there is an iOS version update it may be the last available before Apple moves on to the next iOS version. If the new iOS version is near completion, (meaning it has finished final stages of Beta testing) you may see an option to install a Release Candidate Version. You can do so at your option.  However, there may be some tweaks still pending before final roll-out. That is why I always wait until the official release.

Barring a mistaken release by Apple of an iOS Beta version you can only get it in one of three (3) ways via membership as shown below. Click here for more information:

  • Apple Beta Software Program
  • Customer Seed Program
  • Apple Developer Program

As @Corry P has explained Sonos does not update the OS for Beta releases as (to paraphrase) it is a waste of time, effort and resources. IMO if you are having issues with the Sonos app contact Sonos Tech Support (STS). However, doing so may be fruitless as STS has been unable to replicate the issue. As has been suggested it may be a network and/or network hardware incompatibility. **

Ruling out the above I’d contact Apple Support as another option. Apple typically doesn’t react to isolated complaints regarding third (3rd) party software incompatibility with an iOS version; unless they receive multiple complaints (whatever that magical number may be). Bottomline Apple may have received complaints about your issue. Therefore, lending your voice may precipitate an investigation as a “Known Issue”

 * Does not refer to missing features within the App.

** Contacting the hardware manufacturer to apprise them of the issue is another avenue

Update regarding iOS Release Candidates (RC)

Apple just released iOS 18.3 RC. However, it’s only available to the three (3) groups named in my previous post.

  • Apple Beta Software Program
  • Customer Seed Program
  • Apple Developer Program

If you install iOS 18.3 RC don’t be surprised if Sonos App doesn’t function properly. Therefore, you shouldn’t post in the Community or contact Sonos Tech support regarding issues. The RC is not intended for public consumption.
