Hi Sonos Devs. Thank you for your amazing products and app. I appreciate that I can link my Apple Music account to the Sonos App. A couple things I would love to see, which would elevate my home sound system experience are:

  1. adding a Sonos widget to my iPhone/iPad Lock Screens so I can control the music from the Sonos App without unlocking my devices.
  2. AirPlay compatibility to stream music in Dolby Atmos.

Many thanks.

1. I think I saw that Apple says you can't do that and be listed in the App store.

2. Can Airplay stream Atmos anywhere? Not an Apple user so no clue.

Nope, both down to Apple, not Sonos, as I understand it.

New updates to iOS allows streaming Atmos to compatible devices with bluetooth. It works with the Sonos Ace. But maybe Airplay is restricted to Apple products only. :(

But that doesn’t explain why Sonos could not develop a widget for their App that streams music content. I believe Spotify does.

The Sonos app doesn't stream music content.  It's a remote control, not a music streamer, which is why Apple will not allow control via the lock screen or hard buttons.

Sonos could do Dynamic Island for the controller. Not the same as Lock Screen controls but pretty good. Also they could do widgets.

How many ways do we have to tell you?  Apple has rules which state Sonos cannot be controlled by widgets, lock screen controls, or hard buttons.  Those are reserved for apps that play media on or through the Apple device.

https://professionalsupport.dolby.com/s/article/Dolby-Atmos-and-Dolby-Audio-over-AirPlay-Application-Developer-Guide?language=en_US

Dolby’s site has a detailed guide for developers to provide Dolby atmos streaming over AirPlay (for devices that support AirPlay 2)

has anyone at the Sonos team even tried it or under development?

Seems like a Sonos software issue

apple and Dolby already enabled atmos over AirPlay but Sonos needs to update their software accordingly
