iOS app - compilation albums

Robotron 2084

Guys, the compilation albums in my music library still show up as individual tracks in the iOS app - this means I can’t select & listen to these albums.

My FLACs are all tagged properly, and compilation albums worked perfectly before the release of the ‘updated’ app last year.

My music is all in one folder, so I can’t use folders as a workaround, either.

Everything’s up to date.

Is this still a known issue, and if so, when can we expect a fix, please?

Changes were made and fixes applied but you still need to have Album Artist tags set correctly, I use “Various Artists” on my compilation albums.

A program like Bliss (other are available) can help you check and modify the metadata.

Add your voice to get this changed by writing to the Sonos CEO.

He and his team are aware of the grief and extra work this has created for users with music libraries and all the unintended consequences it creates if you do tag your albums as 'various artists' as Sonos suggest.

I recently corresponded with them on this topic so I know they are fully aware and anyone affected by this should do the same.

I have read that explanation (and all the others) but think about it this way

“Why on earth would you make 100% of media library users make changes to their entire library to cure this problem rather than just get those with duplicate named albums to refine those album names (for example change “unplugged” to “unplugged - Clapton” ?

That far less work all round and you would have avoided the unintended consequences of:

  1. the artists in the compilation albums disappearing from the artist view
  2. the artist being lost completely in the search view within the windows desktop app
  3. Wav file tagging becoming unreliable requiring the media library user to convert their entire library to FLAC or similar  (and yes I know WAV file tagging is not the best but it worked ok prior to this change!)

Is it possible that you mix up song/track artist and album artist?

(“Interpret” → song/track artist / “Album-Interpret” → album artist)

I think you miss the point somewhat,  none of this was an issue before then recent change and the Sonos system used to work even with wav files which I expect is one of the most common ways to download a cd on a windows.

can I ask you about whether you agree with Sonos that you make 100% of users change their entire library when they could of just asked those with duplicates to make adjustments?
