Question

Imported Playlists

Hi - I have a mix of old and not so old speakers (Soundbar, Play One, Play 2, One Gen 2) and operating my Music library (iTunes) through my iMAC ………. and S2 Controller (I was advised on a remote session with Sonos Technician) to install S2 rather than S1). For some months (since a Sonos update?) I’ve not been able to correctly sync my music.

Problems

  1.  I now show on all devices (2 iPhones and the iMAC) duplicated Imported Playlists.
  2. I can play either of any particular duplicated playlist through the iMAC ……….but not through the Controller on either phone.

This has given me the run around for some time and tbh getting fed up with it.

Happy to get this sorted on S2 or AS1, if someone can help overcome the issue, or alternatively to install a 3rd party app that works for all devices

Two questions:

Older Sonos speakers prior to the Arc, Arc Ultra, Era Series and the Five were:

  • Play:1
  • Play: 3
  • One Gen 1
  • One Gen 2
  • Play: 5 Gen 1
  • Play: 5 Gen 2
  • Play Bar (soundbar)
  • Play Base (soundbar)

All except the Play:5 gen1 are capable of using the Sonos App (S2).

  • Which of the above speakers do you have
  • What is a Play 2?

Is at least part of your problem this?

There can sometimes be two playlist files on MAC.

iTunes Music Library.XML. &  iTunes Library.XML

This was a solution to a previous topic concerning duplicate playlists.  I don’t use a MAC so I have no idea where those playlists would be stored.

Hi thanks for ask your replies.

i don’t think that duplicate album names is an issue. Very possible though that it’s to do with two playlist files. I allowed a Sonos tech to take control to sort an issue out a few months ago and this problem occurred at that point.

re speakers list - apologies, I have Play 1 (x2), Play 3, One and Playbar.

I’ve several times tried to update the music library and it just gets stuck on Indexing.

Depending on how long ago this was working, it could be that the current (new S2) Sonos system needs to access your music library differently than before. This is how it needs to be done now, which is different than the way it was set up using S1 (or the older S2).

Share your macOS music folder with Sonos

You may have already done this, but worth checking.
