I am shocked there is no way to remove a Sonos speaker!

The option to hide a product was available in the previous app, but has yet to be implemented in the new Sonos app.

You can simply rename the Connect “Living Room” if you wish the Era 100s to be “Living Room”.

Actually, I cannot rename “Living Room” since I disconnected the device this morning.  It’s not an option in the app now.   This is absolutely ridiculous!

Let me plug it back in and hope I can rename it.

Actually, since I disconnected it, I am unable to change it’s name or do anything else with it.  It just says it’s unavailable.  So, I plugged it back in, and now it doesn’t show up at all!  It’s not showing in the Android app or the Windows app.

So, I unplugged it again.  Hopefully it won’t show back up!

In this scenario it is inconvenient that a unit remains part of the system when you never intend to use it again, but it would also be inconvenient if a unit was automatically deleted from the system when temporarily shut down, perhaps while the area was being cleaned or painted.

If the Connect was being used on S1 then it doesn’t matter what room name it has as the Era 100s are only compatible with the new Sonos app.

In a perfect world, when adding a new device to a system, the setup steps should ask if you are replacing an existing device, eg when you ‘upgrade’ your mobile phone.

I have replaced many Sonos speakers over the years, and sold the replaced speakers on eBay. When listing an item on eBay you get a unique item number. I rename the old device (room) using that item number, eg “eBay1234567890”, after taking photos, before disconnecting.

I then reset the device, it will disappear from App withing a few days.

I can then see when the ‘eBayNNNNNNNNNN’ device disappears from my account at sonos.com, I can easily identify when purchaser has successfully registered my old device in their system, as it contains the eBay item number.

Ridiculous the “Best Answer” includes the suggestion  “If CONNECT is no longer active in the system, uninstall and reinstall the controller.”

That will achieve nothing, the missing component will still appear in the app when it is reinstalled.

Of course, Best Answer does not mean that it is the best answer possible, just that it is the best of the answers given thus far.

Incidentally, the part of the Best Answer that is the best answer, is this part:

The very part you left out of your quote, ironically.

In addition, no-one has so far thought of renaming the room to Sitting Room instead of Living Room, if only until the Connect does get removed.

If you think there should be a better Best Answer, please write it first.

Which the OP already knew as he stated in his post.

It’s fine, I know the Best Answers on this forum are sometimes questionable. Clearly evidenced by this example. Inexperienced users may believe following the “Best Answer” will achieve their desired outcome, but in this case uninstalling and reinstalling the app is a waste of their time.

It’s also understandable that Sonos do not want to promote the app is not back to feature parity with S2 16mths after the introduction of the new Sonos app.
