Hi,

New Sonos user here, just bought an ERA 100.  Have it all configured the way I want it, sounds great, but am having a problem with personal playlists with Spotify.

Spotify is connected just fine, I have a premium subscription, I can play anything I want through the Sonos with it using the Spotify app, BUT it seems to have difficulty finding some of my personal playlists using voice commands.

If I say “Hey Sonos, play ______ playlist from Spotify” it works sometimes, but other times it ignores personal playlists with the exact name I gave and and jumps to some other playlist (not my personal one) that has a similar-but-not-the-same name.

My list names are not complex.  For example, “Female Vocalists” works fine, but “Dance Music” does not.  Asking for the former results in hearing that playlist, asking for the latter results in playback of a similar playlist from somewhere else on Spotify.

The interweb thinks there’s somewhere in the app one can go to manage playlists, I see that for playlists that are hosted locally (on NAS or whatever) but I don’t see any way to manage the personal playlists that the Sonos is getting from Spotify.

Of course I can use the Spotify app itself, choose that playlist and have it play on the ERA - that works fine, but I’d like to be able to do that via voice control, for ALL personal playlists, not just some.

It seems like somehow the ERA is aware of some of the Spotify playlists but not others.  Is there a way to “refresh” it’s list of Spotify playlists?  Perhaps that would fill in the blanks.

Also, is there a way to prioritize the ERA to play personal playlists rather than “everything else”?  I’d really even like to just limit playback to my own playlists - for the time being at least.

Can anyone guide me to buttons to push, commands to use, etc?  Seems weird that I can play some of my playlists but others are “not found”.

Thanks!

Todd

Hi @tmaddison, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues playing your Spotify playlists with Sonos Voice.

I’ve asked some colleagues to test this, and they didn’t run into any issues, so I would recommend the following:

  • Remove and re-add Sonos Voice to your system - You can do this by going to Settings → Era 100 → Sonos Voice Control → Remove Sonos Voice Control. Then after it’s removed, tap Add a Voice Assistant to add it back.
  • Reauthorize Spotify - You can do this by tapping the Profile icon → Content Services → Spotify → Primary Account → Reauthorize Account.

Once you’ve done both of those options, try getting Sonos Voice to play your playlists.

While we don’t have a command for personal playlists from a music service, we do have a command specifically for Sonos Favourites. Open the Sonos app and tap Spotify → Scroll down to Your Library → Playlists → Tap a playlist → Tap the three dots (...) → Save to Sonos Favourites. Once it’s added, you can give the command “Hey Sonos, Play my Playlist Name] playlist.” This should let you play your personal Spotify playlist without Sonos Voice picking a random Spotify playlist.

Having a way to specify your personal playlists without adding them to your favorites is a good idea however, so I’ll mark this as a feature request to be sent to the appropriate team.

I hope this helps!

Thanks very much for the tips.

I went to test the system prior to doing these things to make sure the conditions were the same, and without making any changes found it now is able to recognize and play the playlists it did not recognize before.  Perhaps it just takes some time to sync with Spotify?  I had originally given it at least an hour - just because I was doing other things - but maybe it takes longer than that?

I’ve also now “favorited” my personal spotify playlists so that seems to work well also.

This is a great device, I love it!  Thank you so much!
