I can browse my (very large) music library but not search it - what am I missing?

Anybody have an idea how to re-index my library?

I used the windows app to reindex mine.

Sonos - this you need to fix ASAP - can only believe it was on purpose - but don’t piss on all of us old users who converted CD collections years ago - and not all is out there for streaming.

is it possible to get the old app back?

Another related question.. I have just added some music to my NAS library but cannot find a way to reindex it. Has anyone else come across this issue?

Use the Windows Desktop Controller. For the moment that's the only thing working as it should.

Does anyone have this problem when searching on an iphone/ipad. No matter what I search for, I get the same error. The web version searches fairly well.

Same here. Unusable app

So, yesterday I could see my music library (nas), but not search. Today, I can’t even see my music library from the app.

I have the exact same situation!  Yesterday I could play different albums from my Synology NAS drive on different speakers in separate rooms, but today the access point from the app home page to view my music library is completely GONE!

Oddly, the albums I was listening to yesterday are still associated with those speakers in the app and I can still listen to them.  But I can’t change the album or see any other content in my library.  Insane.

a workaround is to use the Apple Remote app and Airplay to the various Sonos Speakers.  This will work if you use the Music app on a Mac.

70 minute waits on Sonos support line, no Chat support available.  Talk about hiding

I did have access to the library via the desktop app but both have completely disappeared now...so I now the only way I can play my own music is to use plex

The ability to search a local music library is due to return mid-June according to this article. This is good news.

The app update still baffles me. The amount of negative sentiment generated by pushing out an incomplete product is surely not a good thing. The best model for updates (and one that is growing in use) has involved welcoming users to opt in to a beta version and also switch back. It’s a shame this wasn’t adopted in this case.

The new app has so many UI inconsistencies it’s hard to know where to start. Changing rooms is under “System” which is a very tech way to describe a setup. That brings up a slide-over screen and to go back you have to tap the back arrow that’s not on that slide-up. It’s just… weird.

The test I use is “could my mother use it.” The answer here is that I can’t use it, so alas she has very little chance.

Music is really important to me. Sonos has been integral to that enjoyment for 15 years. It’s not an exaggeration to say it’s now become a disincentive to use it. I really hope this is a brief setback.

I agree this is good news. I’d be keen to know how soon we will get access to music libraries properly just like on the s1 app

Oops clicked send too quickly.

Do you know whether they have promised to bring back the “downgrade to s1” feature for new products like port? Without this I’m likely to give in and sell my 15 years collection of 10+ rooms kit.
I much prefer the s1 app. And finally I upgraded my connects to ports so all of my kit is s1 capable as well as s2 and I can’t use s1 for the new ports because the new app doesn’t support the downgrade feature.

So now my music library has vanished completely. Brilliant.

I’m definitely going to be buying a pair of headphones from Sonos that I can’t play my own music on, because I’m not disappointed / frustrated / annoyed enough yet.  /sarcasm

Most requested? By who? I might not be a new customer but I am a mightily fed-up one.

This alleged mid-month update that restores my music library can’t come soon enough.

I am still in the process with Sonos support to resolve my music library issue. I was on the phone for 3 hours and then have had a number of emails between myself and the 2nd line support. Personally I have built up a massive library of my own music files extracted from CD’s, vinyls and downloads built up over nearly 20 years. I hold them all on an external drive which has, most of the time, worked perfectly. I have spent months cataloging , adding information/covers, rating them and creating playlists. This works for me and whilst I have a Spotify account, I don’t want to be tied to them forever. When the price creeps up and up - I want the choice to drop the service. My music library is central to my life (may sound a little dramatic but it is!). Over the years I have spent a lot of money building up my Sonos system - only a few weeks ago I upgraded my ones. I have been a Sonos customer for about 20 years and have suffered with products becoming redundant but I have persevered. I’ve retired so can ill afford to start again building up another system - I like my Sonos system - I suspect there are many of us who want to access our own music rather than streaming services or radio - I don’t need them - but perhaps the demographic of customers Sonos want are not us dinosaurs. I, too, am hoping for a resolution and perhaps will have to wait until mid-June - I must say I’m not too optimistic but you never know.

SONOS are recommending users install a Plex Server (on a NAS or computer) and connect your SONOS system to it to re-establish music library search.  It’s a bandaid solution but works sort of OK.  You can then use universal search. I have had occasional playback issues, and I don’t love needing to do this, but it is what it is.  For how long - who knows?

Search for Plex on these forums for more details.

Thanks stevepow - I will give that a go - anything is better than what I currently have.

how the fuck do they remove the ability to search my library? what moron came up with this??? how much more money do I need to pump into this stupid system to be able to play music I already own???

Spent last night trying to figure out what happened… finally found this thread.

I’m greatly disappointed in Sonos for removing this feature.

Like many others in this thread, I have a large, local music collection that I accessed through the mobile app.

The removal of this feature has rendered my Sonos devices useless for my daily use case.

I hope Sonos will restore this feature ASAP. Otherwise, I’ll need to fine another brand.

I’ve been a customer for 10+ years and am very disappointed.

Sonos - PLEASE fix this ASAP. I have thousands of albums in my library that you’ve effectively rendered worthless.

“Mid-June” is approaching. When I first posted at least the Music Library was visible. Now it’s simply not there.

Here’s why it matters to me:

  1. I encoded my music collection as FLAC so I wouldn’t lose quality as I moved to streaming from my NAS.
  2. My CDs contain versions, mixes or sequences that aren’t available on streaming services.
  3. I’ve paid for it, so I don’t see the need to pay for a streaming service.
  4. My library is my own curated collection. Browsing it is part of the experience.

These are all reasons I bought my first Sonos in 2007 and have expanded it since. The loss of access to my music library is deeply personal. Sonos should be able to create much more value by appealing to that emotional connection than simply selling access to commoditised streaming services.

Clearly a crude effort to force one to use a service that has ads or is paid for. One still has access to BBC Sounds. Doubt if I will ever buy another digital-based setup. Back to Vinyl and it is really difficult for the corporates to mess it up! I certainly won’t be buying any more Sonos kit.

I'm absolutely furious that I can no longer search my music library in the new Sonos app. It's incredibly frustrating to see such a basic, essential feature being removed. I've invested a lot in building my music collection and Sonos system, and now it's become a hassle to find the tracks I want to listen to. This change has seriously diminished my user experience, and I'm deeply disappointed. Sonos, you need to fix this immediately!

Sonos has destroyed my support for their products.  The new app and the elimination of access to my music library destroyed my confidence.  I will move on to another product.

If you want an alternative to Sonos, Raspberry Pi with Volumio works very well (wireless and wired), a bit tricky to set up if you use USB DAC, but works reliably. Cost me about 80 GBP to get mine up and running. Volumino is free for basic service I.e. playback off a NAS, streaming services require subscription. If you don't want to use USB, you can either playback via hdmi via suitable amp or add  DAC top hat. I currently have mix of Rpi and Sonos, replaced my old S1 compatible device with Rpi.

There are other os options instead of Volumio, but it was first I tried and it is quite a nice interface so I didn't bother looking at others.
