I think I've figured it out. They've been undermining local music libraries for over a year, and now they've all but removed support for them. At the same time, they are launching their own streaming service. So, 2+2=4.
Sonos doesn't give a rat's ass for people who spent over the odds on quality hardware for multi room rendering of their music collections. They're losing money.
So, all they care about is skimming a margin from music streamed over their service. Anyone who can access their own, royalty free, music undermines their bleeding the customer, sorry “recurring revenue”, business model.
My prediction, it's going to get worse. The only hope is another controller app, less expensive than Roon and more cross platform than SonoPad, comes along. Until then, keep those updates turned off.

This app update has to go down in history as the worst I've ever seen.
Missing functionality. Too many to list.
Your terms of service, prevent me from being honest in my description of you. And the way I would truly like to describe your questionable knowledge in providing an app my 5 year old grandson could've done better.
I'm looking to see if someone who doesn't know better can take this entire pile of 5### off me, so I can move over to a proper system.

Like so many here, have uninstalled the app, and installed the older version 16 one that gives me the features I need.
Please Sonos, listen to your customers, respond to their comments and sort out this stupid “Update”. How you can describe it as that when it is clearly a downgrade just proves that you have no respect for your customers. (or soon to be ex customers).

Has anyone received a response from Sonos concerning this mitigated disaster called an update?
This update is just bad. It mangled a delightfully simple and highly useful interface by introducing a bunch of advert-lookin garbage, and forces navigation through several layers of audio controls just to be able to control individual speaker volumes. If this is preparation for Sonos to get in on the advertising dollars cash-grab at the expense of users and the user experience, there goes my appreciation for the company and subsequently, its products. Please give back the original app (I’m on iPhone, so no rollback option for me).
I believe that this is their ultimate goal, using our data for ad dollars, and eventually charging customers a monthly service fee for using their products. See my post Sonos Corporation’s True Agenda.
Why don't they take the mobile phone industry as a role model for a dual business model?
1 - Sponsored hardware: Cheap, but with a long-term paid service contract.
2 - Real price hardware: Expensive, but leaving the customer with free choices.
With 1, Sonos can do what they want and customers have to accept restrictions and one-sided balance of power.
With 2, Sonos makes money just with their cool hardware and an open app concept. Speakers might become even more expensive than now, but in exchange, customers have freedom of choice regarding services and “all-you-can-eat” app functionality. Simply as powerful and user friendly the engineers can design it. Broad user base will provide enough input, for sure, to make it a brilliant product.
My wife cant play music from her playlist she cant use it at all.
I can play a few music numbers but my playlist is nonplayable.
and a lot of settings options are missing.
It a cross between an Alpa/Beta version and i cant go back ios.

Just purchased my first two Bluesound speaker (Pulse Flex 2i, Sonos ONE class). Testing their ecosystem now.
Sound - competitive, for sure. No feature as Trueplay though.
App - competitive. MUCH better of course than current desaster release. Kind of, as Sonos had been. At least regarding functions I use.
No ads on TuneIn web radios, big advantage. “Minimal volume too loud” issue can be handled better, by limiting range of sound sliders. Finer stepping on low volumes. However, adding my local music lib as a network or local share fails for now (Mac/iPhone environment) for unclear reasons. Error feedback provided by app insufficient. But nothing is perfect. Two days of trying, got a support ticket now and I’m optimistic it’s just some in-transparent permission issue which can be fixed…
All in all it looks, as if 4x ONE and 2x FIVE will flood the second hand market soon :-)

Bluesound: Canadian, member of the NAD family, somehow. I do not have the impression so far they intend the same restrictive customer management as Sonos.

Hey Sonos, can you pls put a monetary value on all of the Sonos playlists you’ve deleted to reimburse users and then give us credits—but not credits in the Sonos store b/c I think a lot of us are now very wary of spending any more money with you. So, like Amazon gift cards maybe?
These would be the same playlists that you also made impossible to create any backup of to be exported.

The number of topics/issues on this forum confirms to me that there is a huge problem with this new update. I had a great thing going before, with total control of my Sonos system. Now it is a jumbled mess! Nothing works. I would like the previous version back, too.

Totally agree! I am fuming that I’ve installed it. They just seem to have over complicated everything. You can’t even play a playlist!
I see info on getting the old app back for phones. What about for desktop?
App version 16.1. Cannot add music libraries. Requires you to first update to latest App version. Which, as apparently everyone knows but Sonos, sucks!

I’ve been a loyal Sonos customer since the products were first introduced. This is the single worst app update I have ever seen and I am just stunned at how wrongheaded the entire thing is. I hope there will be a fix just as soon as possible because this is truly unbelievable and very disappointing.
Not only is the design poor, it has multiple flaws. Even froze up and kicked me out of chat support. Crashes frequently when trying to fix issues with the system. Very frustrated given the number of products I own and money I’ve invested.
