When I play music from a Pandora station, Sonos shows the song title “on Napster” instead of “on Pandora”.  What has changed?

I am having the same issue on all of my Android devices, including a Pixel 6a using Android 14.

When playing any Pandora station on my S1 system the S1 app shows the station playing on Napster, with the Napster logo.  I don’t, and have never had, a Napster subscription.

Other than the above problem everything works as expected.

Also, this problem does not present itself on my S1 Windows app using Windows 11. On that app only the word “Pandora” is displayed over the name of the Pandora station.

I only signed up with Pandora on 12/5 and I believe the Pandora logo was showing on my Android S1 apps and only started showing the Napster name the next day.

I also am seeing the “graph paper” instead of the Pandora logo on my list of sources in the S1 apps.

I am also having this. All Pandora stations show as “my station on Napster”, but it’s clearly not correct.

It’s not causing a problem, but I figured it might help the Sonos folks to know that it’s happening to many.

I can guess what area this app bug is in. When playing a track, there’s a source id in the metadata. This id is turned back into a music service for display, but if the code screws this up it will pick the wrong streamer. And yes, the list includes all services, not just the ones you subscribe to.

I would guess that certain combinations of subscribed services are necessary for this lookup to fail, and having something like two accounts on the same service might be that “something”. (Though it works for me and I have a complex arrangement of music services).

Why its always Pandora → Napster is weird though.

I’m having the same issue. Sonos 1 app on iOS 18.1.1 shows “on Napster" when playing Pandora.

for me it shows on all stations on all tracks all the time.

no pandora logo appears on the services list

On my Windows desktop, I am using the desktop controller.

The issue I am reporting does not affect playback of Pandora content.  It is a cosmetic issue only.

Thanks for testing this out. It’s interesting to note that it’s only showing on your iOS devices. On your Windows computer, are you using the desktop controller, web app, or both? It would be good to know if this is isolated to mobile devices, or even iOS only.

I’ll check with our engineers what devices they were using to test, as this may not occur on Android controllers.

Regarding when the app says “on Napster”, does this cause any issues besides the text showing the wrong service? It was mentioned earlier, but it’s possible that it is a visual error and should hopefully be an easy fix.

Me too. Same thing.  I don’t have, never had a Napster account.

What have you been able to find out, @Jamie A ?

See image of issue...

The icon for the Pandora service is graph paper? Looks like a service change within the Sonos S1 app.

Just to add/chime in...I also get the Napster "issue" controlling SONOS from my Samsung phone.

Hi all, thanks for your screenshots and diagnostics, we wont be needing any more.

A small update here, but I’ve been in touch with the engineering team about this and was able to get a bug report created for this issue. I’ve tagged the thread as having this issue; once it’s resolved I can reply here with an update, though generally you’ll see the fix before I do.

There isn’t any workaround currently, but the issue just seems to Napster showing incorrectly and doesn’t effect playback in any way.

If I hear anything else I’ll be sure to update this thread with more information.

Hi all,

Our engineers let me know that an update was pushed for Pandora yesterday that is now live. It should hopefully fix this issue and you shouldn’t need to update the app from what they’ve told me. Just to be safe, I would suggest force closing the Sonos app, or rebooting the device you’re running the app on.

If this doesn’t fix the issue then they’ve let me know they’ll will look further into this. Also, if anyone still have the issue after today, please submit a diagnostics and reply here so I can forward these to our team.

Thanks again for your patience.

Hello Jamie,

Unfortunately, I am still seeing the issue.  The issue appears on the Sonos app running on my iOS device.  I have a Sonos Port.  I took the following actions:

  • Exited and re-started the Sonos app on the iOS device.
  • Re-booted the iOS device.
  • Verified that the iOS device is running the latest Sonos controller app version.
  • Power-cycled the Sonos Port.
  • Checked for Sonos system updates.

No joy.

I can also report that the issue still exists for me. Sonos S1 app (latest version) on a Pixel 6a running Android 14.

I cleared the cache and force stopped the app and rebooted the phone and I am still seeing "Playing on Napster." Also, the Pandora logo is still replaced by the "graph paper" on the Sonos source list.

Hi @AustinJerry & @mduf,

Thanks for checking, I’ll report back to the team to let them know. When I last spoke with them it did seem like they had other fixes in mind, so I think another update should come sooner rather than later.

If you two have your Sonos accounts under the same email address as your community account, could you please submit a diagnostics after starting playback and seeing the wrong logo in the app. You don’t need to reply with the diagnostics number if that’s the case, just reply here that you’ve sent one and I can forward it to our engineers.

Again, if there are any updates I’ll reply here and let you all know.

Diagnostics #346649955 has been submitted.

Diagnostic has been sent.

Just to clarify, this only happens on my Android apps for my all-S1 system.

Windows app {Win 11} shows Pandora under the album art and shows the Pandora logo in the source list, so nothing wrong there.
