I purchased a FLAC encoded music album. Unfortunately, the sample rate is 96k. I’ve resampled the music to 44.1k using VLC media player.

What I’m finding is that each of the resampled songs (files) play on my SONOS system. But the files are not linked together as an album. Also, the album artwork is not associated with the music files.

Any suggestions as to what I did wrong and/or what I should do?

Thx,

Marty

If the original music files had the artwork and meta data I'd look for a resampling program that preserved all that, sorry no clue what to use. If you tell us what OS maybe folks would have an idea.

Manually is going to suck, but add each missing tag to each track. Save the album cover image in the directory with the flac files, I think it needs to be named folder.jpg or other supported type

Embedding artwork

My OS is macOS Sequoia 15.5. BTW, I’m a ‘newby’ at using an Apple PC.

VLC does not preserve metadata unfortunately. Best to use a converter that does. Some on here might be able to recommend.

FYI, ChatGPT suggests the following but it could be poor recommendations!

  • fre:ac (Free, open-source, cross-platform)
  • dBpoweramp (Windows, paid but powerful)
  • XLD (Mac only)
  • FFmpeg (Command line, metadata can be copied manually or scripted)

All of the album tracks should be stored in the same folder. I use low imagination track file names such as “T01.flac”, “T02.flac”, etc. The artwork can be stored as a file named (literally) “folder.jpg” and all of the tracks will use it. There is no need to embed artwork in each track file for SONOS library use, but other programs might require embedded artwork.

Try to use ffmpeg it isn't too difficult to use (you also can use ChatGPT and copy their codes) and with this you can adjust the codecs, container, and the Metadata so with ffmpeg you can make so much things but only it is supported in a line code and for install is a bit annoying

Does a file with a “too high” sample rate not play at all on Sonos?
