Exporting Sonos playlists

I would like to export my Sonos playlists in my Music Library to an OWC external 2Tb SSD.  I’ve seen the SonoSaver app and am thinking about trying it. But I have some questions:

  1. How should the SSD be formatted for higher res music?
  2. Can I plug the SSD into my router and use it as a NAS or should I leave it connected to my iMac?
  3. I consider myself pretty much “tech-challenged”, so is the SonoSaver app an easy solution?

My iOS app can export them: “Phonos Plus”. There’s a video of how to do it here:

  1. How should the SSD be formatted for higher res music?

There’s no reason to choose a filesystem based on the type of data that’s being stored - it may be higher res music, but it’s just data. OWC publish formatting guides for their storage products - just follow the appropriate one for your device.

Excellent...thank you both for your responses!  I’ll research Phonos Plus and order up the SSD.

One more question if I may:    Controlav...can you help me understand the difference between “Phonos Plus” and “SonoSaver”?

I wrote Phonos Plus, runs on iOS (and MacOS with M chips). Someone else wrote SonoSaver, you’d have to ask them about it.

Since you mentioned using your Mac or your router, make sure to pick a file-system both can read.

With 2 TB you may well want to use some of that space for other than Sonos music, if so look into the file-system’s supported attributes and pick one that allows you to retain the full set used by your Mac so nothing is lost by moving the data from the Mac to the SSD.

Sonos isn’t picky about all of that and is happy to run on anything from FAT to XFS.

I know too little about Apple to be of any real help in picking a file-system but it usually isn’t difficult to line up what each system provides and what you need and pick one that ticks all the boxes.

Hi,

I have downloaded the phonos plus app and gone on to the Soundiiz site… firstly when using the app to find my playlist on my Sonos Connect S1, wanting to export to my S2 there’s nothing listed and when on the site there’s no sign of Sonos in the list of streaming services.

I’m not at all tech minded, plus I’m blind, but if anyone could help, it would be much appreciated

Mac

Make sure you select “Playlists” on the Export page, by tapping at the top (it defaults to Alarms). Sorry, my app has no Accessibiity features.

Once exported to a file you can import to SoundIIZ, detailed here: https://support.soundiiz.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018717099-Export-Sonos-playlists-and-transfer-them-with-Soundiiz

Actually your Phonos app is pretty accessible, but I was disappointed when it came to exporting the playlist, despite having a free account, I was asked to choose a payment plan.

Playlist export should be a free feature, playlist import and a few other things require a one-time $0.99 fee.
