Anyone else have this issue?

If I play a song direct in the apple music app on my iPhone (ie through the phone speakers or my AirPods Pro) it will show as Atmos or Lossless depending on the song.

If I play the same song through my Sonos system connected the Apple TV 4K then it will play the song in Atmos/Lossless. For info the system is a Beam Gen 2, Sub Gen 2 and 2 x Gen 2 5’s

If I use the Sonos app on my iPhone and play the song from the Apple Music library within the app it will not play in Atmos/Lossless.

I have 320mbps internet so speed isn't the issue.

I have:

 - deleted and reinstalled the app

 - Reauthorised the Apple Account

 - Rebooted the Internet

I can't see why when I use the music app on the Apple TV the music is played in Atmos/Lossless. But when I play the song via Apple Music within the Sonos app, it won't.

Anyone know how to fix as it is really irritating my CDO? 😂

Thanks

Carl

Sometimes when playing Apple Music tracks in the Sonos app, scrobbling forwards and back in the track a couple of times and then letting it play will bring up the Lossless or Dolby Atmos logos/indicators. An idiosyncrasy of Sonos sometimes.

It is potentially due to the streaming protocol required when streaming Apple Music from Sonos app.

The Sub (Gen 2) is listed as not supporting Lossless.

If you temporarily remove the Sub (Gen 2), does the Beam 2 and surrounds play atmos/lossless?

@Mr. T

I have a Sub Gen 2 and can play Lossless and Atmos on Apple Music via the Sonos app….

Potentially the support article then just relates to a sub bonded with a single speaker or stereo pair, rather than a soundbar which it does not make clear.

@0014 - Is the Spacial Music setting enabled in the settings for the Beam Gen2 ?

I don’t see that setting. I was thinking of something else

As an example this is what I see in the Apple Music App and if I play this via the Apple TV 4K then I get it in lossless

Play the same song through Apple Music in  Sonos App and I don’t get any lossless.

In your screenshot, you have a room grouped.

If that grouped room does not support atmos/lossless, then the stream will be downgraded.

Edited.

Legend. That was the issue. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Off to sit in the corner of shame now. 🙄😂

Was discussed here a while back

It’s similar behaviour with older Subs playing Ultra HD with Amazon Music.

Point still stands that the support article is badly written.
