Hello guys,

I am very sorry for this topic i am a first time sonos user and it is been asked many many times but i hope there is a solution that is so easy that i can understand.

Other users on our wifi network can open the sonos app and look for devices and can control everything.

I dont like that and i dont want that because it is a student house and i think,no i know they are gonne play with it on moments i dont like.

I have read that I can do it with a seperate router, so i have to connect the amp to that router.        Do I have to put the live internet cable in the wan or lan port of that router and wont i get problems with the other internet system and routers because of ip or subnet settings?                                       I Dont have acces to the provider router thats the main wifi and cabled internet.

And does have the amp acces to the network to play spotify.(because when it is in that network it is detectable or is that theory false.

Or are there other easy solutions. The best way is to hide detection option in the sonos app one connected and logged in.

So are there ways or am i screwed.

Thank you for your time.

No need any more to mess with additional routers.

Turn off “Guest Mode” in the app, enable “Authentication”. These are under Privacy & Security.

‘Public” networks are always a challenge for Sonos users. The common suggestion is to get your own ‘Travel’ router, that will connect to this ‘public’ network, and then connect all your devices to the network created by that travel router. That should keep people from accessing any of your devices, and give you the opportunity to control your own ‘network’ resources.

Ahh oke, and a travel router is plug and play?

Because when i place a normal router i get problems with ip subnet etc etc I guess.

Do you have an example of a travel router so i can take look at the difference netween travel and normal.

Thank you

Haven’t used one since I was visiting Thailand for several months, so it’s hard to point to any document in particular, your best bet would be to read the manual of whichever one you choose.

In general, a travel router connects to another network, and creates its own network that you connect your devices to, which includes its own subnet, DHCP table (IP addresses), etc. So your controller device would need to connect to this travel router, so that it is on the same ‘network/subnet’ as the Sonos. When you left the area of your own WiFi, you may have to switch over on your phone to the ‘public’ network, depending on your usage.

Travel routers are designed to be easy to connect and configure. Here is an inexpensive one, many more out there.
