A few months ago (post the big app update) I followed some advice here to get Swiss Jazz radio working again.

This was basically to add a custom URL to TuneIn for the station, favourite it, then browse to TuneIn →  Favourites in the Sonos app and add it to Sonos Favourites. This worked and all was well.

Now, this doesn’t work, I can click the link for the station in the Sonos app and it will not play. Other (predefined) stations work on tuneIn so I know the authorisation is okay.

I’ve gone back through the steps I followed previously and can’t get it to work, two issues:

  • Attempting to Favourite the station in the TuneIn app whilst its playing does not work, it asks for the name but does not save it - if I go Library the count against Favourites is 0. If I enter that section, there’s nothing there.
  • Even if that did work, I can’t browse TuneIn favourites in the Sonos app, the section is not there under the TuneIn provider. Proven this by adding a predefuined station as a favourite in TuneIn (this does work and show in their app), but going Your Services → TuneIn still doesn’t show any favourties section

Is there another way to fix this or is this now impossible?

@Random123

Regarding to your first issue not to be able to add the url to favorites within TuneIn app… are you using the app on Android? Since a few weeks there is a bug on TuneIn Android app. Exactly the same with their app for iOS works fine.

Your second issue I can’t reproduce. For me within Sonos app I select TuneIn new and can see and select all my favorites including the url stations.
Did you try to remove TuneIn from Sonos connected services and to re add it again?

Thanks for the reply - yes using Android TuneIn app, hopefully they fix that soon.

As for the Sonos app, yes I’ve just removed TuneIn and re-added it whilst having a predefined station in my favourites in TuneIn - no dice, I see the following sections in the TuneIn service:

@Random123

Are you on latest updates of firmware and Sonos app? App update was released yesterday to version 80.09.04.

Otherwise I can just imagine that it’s a regional limitation of TuneIn. I live in Germany and the favorites are available on Sonos iOS and Android app. Having them on the TuneIn app doesn’t guarantee that they also are available on Sonos.

Maybe Sonos support has more information about this.

The red marked ones are my manually to TuneIn added url stations.

Yes, all apps and firmware up to date. I suppose I could try clearing caches.

Frustrating that Sonos is so awkward, if it had the ability to enter a URL for a stream this would be so simple.

And you are using ”TuneIn (New)” service?

And signed in in the TuneIn Android app when favoriting? It’s possible to favorite stations there even when not signed in, and then obviously they won’t show in the Sonos app.

Have you checked if “myTuner Radio” service in Sonos app has the stations you need and works at your location (so that it’s not geo-restriction blocking)?

I have switched using that because there aren’t advertisements like in “TuneIn New” service.

Yes, using TuneIn (new)

Yes, signed in and running the TuneIn app on android. Whilst its playing if you click the heart it asks for a name, enter that, press ok, it just doesn’t save it, not listed in favourites within that app. You can favourite a predefined station in exactly the same way and it works - but I still don’t see Favourites under TuneIn (new) service so I’m doubly out of luck it seems.

Radio Swiss Jazz must be geo-blocked - it does appear in myTuner but won’t play.

It does sound like it’s either something wrong with the Android TuneIn app or for some reason geo-restriction prevents saving it even when you’ve signed in.

iOS TuneIn app works (as others also said). For me the Radio Swiss Jazz station is listed in the TuneIn iOS app and I’m able to favorite it as well.

I’m also able to add this custom url for it and it saves it to the TuneIn favorites.

And in Sonos app or play.sonos.com I’m able to find Radio Swiss Jazz in Sonos Radio.

I think UK has started blocking at least some foreign radio stations. There have been a few threads here relating to that. Could be that if you’re in the UK.

yes probably geo blocked on mytuner.

TuneIn app could just have a bug, I’d be surprised if they’re parsing custom URLs to determine if to block, maybe I’ll try testing it

I do have an old iphone laying around, maybe I’ll have to try instaling tuneIn and Sonos on that and see if it works.

@Random123

As I said I‘m pretty sure that iOS Tune In app will work for you as it does for @kpr and me.
The strange thing here is that TuneIn new in Sonos app doesn’t show favorites at all. I would have expected that at least some of all the available stations will be listed there. But as I understand favorites section is missing there completely.

I haven’t had time to test this in iOS yet, but I noticed someone in the thread below has the same issue in the Sonos app with tuneIn favourites not displayed, except he’s on iOS, so I’m doubtful iOS is going to work for me.

Additionally I realised that Radio Swiss Jazz is not geoblocked - you can go to their website on any device and press play and it works, its also possible to download their app (Play SRF) and it plays just fine. You can also use the stream URLs listed on their website in pretty much anything on any device to listen, except via Sonos in any way of course!
