I routinely get “connection timed out” when simply trying to use Apple Music from Sonos. Sometimes it it when I have been using airplay (YouTube… or Apple Music because I can’t use it from Sonos) but there is no pattern that I can identify. I have tried shutting down, rebooting which sometimes works but the same problem reappears eventually

Sorry to hear of this issue you have been having when trying to play content from Apple Music on your Sonos system.
Obviously, there is a connection issue, but that issue could be in any number of places between your speaker and the Apple servers.
The chances are, however, that the issue is local to your network. I recommend that the next time you see this happen, you immediately submit a support diagnostic. Once done, please record the given number and, when convenient, get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports about this situation in particular.
I suspect that the issue may be due to interference, so a read of our Reduce wireless interference help page is recommended before calling in - it may save you a call if there’s an obvious source of interference that can be easily addressed.
