Connection of Existing System to Sonos App on MacOS 26

Hi, Frustrated or What?

I have just changed my wifi name, this involved a full factory reset of every Sonos product and the creation of a new ‘Sonos’ System using the app on my phone, after a few little issue, every Sonos speaker transferred over from the old system and joined the new. Every speaker has had it/s wifi changed successfully.

However, despite a full reinstall of MacOS and Sonos app on the Mac ( as you see, I’ve tried a lot!) I still cannot get the Sonos App for MacOS to join the party.

When I open the App, it tries to find, what is now, an ‘existing system’, and tells me that my firewall settings have changed.

Every single setting of my firewalls are correct, permissions for the app to find devices on the network - correct. Permission to control my computer using Accessibility features - correct.

My full system is fully recognized by my app on my iPhone!

I am a retired IT professional so I pity poor souls with no IT skills!!

I am now on day three of trying to find a solution - any genius ideas?

The fix for this is often the following on your Mac:

Toggle Local Network access on macOS

  • Open System Settings (System Preferences) → Privacy & Security → Local Network. Find the Sonos entry and toggle its permission off then on

You state “I have just changed my wifi name, this involved a full factory reset of every Sonos product and the creation of a new ‘Sonos’ System using the app on my phone". Can you alborate on why this was needed?

Tried toggling the permission for network access to find devices - no change.

With regard to why I changed wifi, we have moved house, implemented a 5g router to get internet via mobile data as we live in the middle of nowhere. And, I have added a tp-link ER605 router to handle the poor abilities of the 5g modem/router and had to rebuild the Deco Mesh system as well.

I had a similar issue with my iMac previously and it was resolved that time after removing and re-installing the Sonos app on my iMac twice.

I understand changing your Wi-Fi SSID and pass-phrase but why did you do the Factory Resets that cause so much grief and are very rarely needed, even then only after consultation with Sonos support?

If you ever have to do this again, this is good advice to follow:

Connect Sonos to a new router or WiFi network

I saw it afterwards unfortunately! 😂

If you are on MacOS Golden Gate beta, forget it. The Local Network permission is broken for many.
