I have Sonos system with:
Sonos OS S1, Version 11.15.2

I want to connect it to a router which is running OpenWRT. I connected a USB drive to the router with my music library. Samba4 does not fit on the router, so I did install ksmbd-server. But my Sonos can not connect to it while on Windows I can map a drive to it (so sharing does work).

Now my question:

I’m completely confused if I need to use SMB1 or SMB2 on this router. When I read the posts about this then it seems that for a S2 system SMB2 is needed. Do S1 systems only support SMB1? I upgraded to the last Sonos software (11.15.2). Does that mean that I need SMB2 now for this S1 system too?

I did read that ksmbd does not support SMB1. Is that the reason I can not get it to work? Can I somehow make this Sonos S1 system to support SMB2?

Sonos S1 only supports SMB v1, there is not enough space in the kernel to add support for ‘higher’ versions.

Sonos S2 supports only higher versions of SMB (not v1) only.

As an aside, not all routers that have USB ports for drives have SMB (NAS software) included, some treat them as merely extended HDs and not NAS drives, check your router’s manual.
