Like a lot of other people I lost the ability to play my music files on Sonos. I have read many posts about this but nothing in them works. I tried to follow the “checklist” that was somewhere on the community forum to reestablish connection but it says to do things that are not possible options on my computer. I have spent a lot of time several times with the customer help department reinstalling the app and checking firewalls but nothing works. About ten years ago I could click a couple of times on my phone app and play whatever was in my music folders when ever I wanted. That option has been taken away for some unknown reason with the so-called “upgrade” over a year ago. I cannot understand why Sonos can’t reestablish the ability to play from our computers. I have a lot of older format music on mine that does not play on newer devices. I would be happy just to have the ability to play my music on the Sonos system. I tired importing some of it to playlists in Sonos and that doesn’t work either. I am not going to use a cloud or web. I just got hacked using something I thought was safe. I want my original system back - is that asking too much?
Well, Apple and Google decided on the change that restricts Sonos from playing files ‘on this mobile device’, so you’d likely need to ask them about that, as it isn’t in Sonos’ ability to play that content anymore.
On the other hand, I’ve not had any difficulty playing music stored on my Mac’s hard drive, or an NAS (or a NAS?). And when I need to play files from my mobile devices, I use either AirPlay 2 or Bluetooth to send the signal from that device to Sonos, using a non-Sonos player on my mobile device, and then using the Sonos software to ‘group’ various rooms as needed.
Unfortunately, I don’t have access to any data from your previous connections to Sonos’ Customer Service, and there isn’t enough information in your post to even begin to understand what you have on both sides, and begin to offer a solution. All I can suggest is, that while some things were made more difficult by Apple, and then the subsequent transition from SMB v1 in Sonos S1 to SMB v2/3.x in Sonos S2, I’ve been able to make it work for me.
