Just bought a ERA300 and set it up an hour ago. Usually I listen to music from Spotify but I also have made a few playlist with own produced music, imported to my iPhone as mp3 files. I create a playlist in Spotify on my computer with these files and when I connect my iPhone to the computer it synchronizes the iPhone with the changes I made, the playlist with local files pops up in the iPhone as well.

But now I have tried both the “normal” way to listen to these local files from the iPhone via ERA300 connected to WIFI which not worked, and I did not expect it to work either.

Then I pushed the small “bluetooth connect” button on the back of ERA300 and connected my iPhone via bluetooth. It still refused to play my mp3 files, when I click on them in Spotify on my iPhone absolutely nothing happens.

My thoughts on this is that maybe the WIFI still is connected to ERA300, and this might be the reason that it does not work? Can I stop ERA300 from beeing connected to the WIFI and use it as a simple bluetooth speaker (it hopefully can work then).

I want to carry the new ERA300 with me if I go to a friend for listening to the music I have made and is in mp3 format (local files), and don’t want any issues with ERA300 forcing me to connect to a new WIFI or something like that. It must work with Bluetooth only as well.

Do you have any advice or have I bought a product that does not work at all like a more normal bluetooth speaker if I want it to? Of course I want to play via WIFI normally, but I actually need to listen to my local mp3 files as well, and this normally (with other bluetooth speakers I own) require me to use plain vanilla bluetooth connection, I have earlier not encountered any problems like the one with ERA300.

Hopefully there is some system setting I need to perform, otherwise I need to return the speaker and look for something else.

Try to restart the Era 300 (only by unplug 10 sec and after plug it again) and your iPhone and after try to play it again via Bluetooth, if that does not work try with another device, if it don't solves your problem sorry; that was the solution for me.

Well thanks,  I will try that. I tried to play the mp3s via Airplay and that did work but then I could not control (stop/start) the music from Spotify. So need to fins another way.

So, (sorry if I misunderstood) but you tried to play Spotify after a mp3, while or, what exactly?

Hi @WillyTheKid

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

And I am sorry to hear about this issue you are having with playing mp3 files to your Era 300 over Bluetooth.

The one part I don’t understand is why you are using Spotify. Although I am not overly familiar with the app or service, I understand it to be an app for playing Spotify’s own library of content, and not local files. A quick search does reveal that it will play local files, however.

Have you tried using any other apps? The Era 300 absolutely should be able to play any content that comes out of your phone’s speaker when Bluetooth is linked.

Similarly, with AirPlay, the controls available to you on the screen should control the playback of the speaker.

If you are still unable to play via either method, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.
