I checked the forums and didn’t find anything that wasn’t 3+ years old or the solution was to just play music through Sonos app.
this is recent but surrounds do not work when playing Apple Music through the tv. It works with movies or other content but music app has stopped working in the last couple months.
suggesting that I only have surrounds if it’s played through Sonos app is unacceptable. It worked fine before for atmos or any other format.
When I play an Atmos track using Apple Music on the Apple TV device, it plays as Atmos on Sonos. Turn CAC off so you can see the actual format in Sonos. Because with CAC on, all audio is sent Dolby MAT which Sonos displays as Dolby Atmos, whether is is Atmos or not. In which case you can’t see what the actual audio format is.
I just tested this with the album RPWL - World Through My Eyes (Revisited) - 20th Anniversary Version.
Make sure in the Apple TV settings → Apps → Music → Dolby Atmos = Automatic.

When I disable I get pcm stereo for music and movies and since it’s my theater that’s a big compromise.

I don’t know what else to suggest. Atmos music on Apple TV’s Music app does work. Maybe your TV settings? I don’t have an LG, so can’t help you there.
