Apple music, item not available.

Hi, I have recently noticed that on my Sonos playlists about 50% of the songs which I access via Apple Music are displaying a ‘item no longer available’ and not playing. If I take them off the playlist and then re-add them, the song plays so it’s obviously ‘available’. I have de-activated/activated the account to see if that clears the problem but to no avail. I’m just getting frustrated by spending so much time re-doing my playlists. It appears to be a problem with the S2 app. Any suggestions?

As @106rallye says, this is an Apple location/naming/metadata issue rather than a Sonos-caused issue. It’s like changing a file name in Excel or Word - if you try to open recent files using the previous name, it will come up as not found. So if Apple has adjusted/improved anything about that file (they don’t care that you’ve added it to a Sonos playlist), it will no longer be found.

This issue will be particularly prevalent with older Sonos playlists.

Streaming services are re-adding music files all the time to take into account their re-mastering for Dolby Atmos, for example.

As I understand it (but please correct me if I’m wrong), a Sonos playlist is a direct link to a song. If Apple changes things around the link will appear broken on Sonos. Work around would be to use Apple Music playlists, that will be relayed to Sonos (and, as a bonus, can be used outside of your home).
