Do you have an expected release date of when I will be able to control the Sonos device volume using the Android volume up/down buttons on the side of the phone? Seems like very simple/common functionality, I’m surprised it doesn’t exist yet.
Right now I have to unlock the phone, go into the app then change the volume. If I’m doing this wrong, or missing something please let me know.
The app version on my Android is 80.22.28 - June 4th, 2025 - so it’s pretty recent.

Hello John, if I could have your phone model because I have a Samsung smartphone and I'm able to do this since I have Sonos speakers (since like 2 years ago) so this for my is strange. I will appreciate it :)
I am using a Google Pixel 7 with a Sonos Era 100. In case I wasn’t clear in the original post - if I unlock the phone and have the Sonos app “in focus” I can control volume with volume buttons on the phone. When the phone is locked, or the app in not in focus the volume doesn’t work. I wouldn’t expect the phone to be able to control the volume when the app isn’t running in the background.
Ohh, now I understand well before in the S2 app before the redesign we had a notification, and with that inclusive with the phone locked, I hope that this function will comeback:)
While we’re at it, it would be awesome to have home screen controls - while the phone is locked. That way song comes on, want to skip - pick up the phone and hit the fast forward button. Just like every music player on the planet. :) Don’t know how Sonos let this one slip through

Not sure about the Android side of things - and I know this thread is about that - but it comes up a lot so for anyone reading with iOS… It was Apple’s decision, not Sonos’. The Sonos app is a remote control, not a player. No music plays on the phone itself, unlike Spotify, Amazon Music etc. It tells the speakers which music to seek from your music provider over WiFi.
Apple introduced restrictions that mean having such controls on the lock screen for Sonos is no longer permitted (I don’t know the ins and outs).
So in the case of Apple, Sonos didn’t let it slip through, their hands are tied… As I said, not sure if anything similar in recent history has applied to Android to prevent it...
