While there have been many threads about issues with the implementation of AirPlay 2 on Windows, i haven’t seen any that I recall about Roon, so I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. But don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.
There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
I don’t recommend Factory Reset without further consult because it trashes diagnostic data.
After call to Sonos Support they admit a bug of the latest Sonos speakers that come with wifi 6 support. The list of affected devices is:
Era100, Era300, Move2, Arc Ultra
And the problem only exists using Airplay from within Windows iTunes / Apple Music / Roon-app.
Airplay from Apple devices to the mentioned devices works fine.
The Sonos devices are visible as Airplay devices, you can connect to them, audio is playing but there is no sound on the connected Sonos speaker. Switching Airplay to another Sonos (non wifi 6) device immediately plays audio on the selected speaker.
I just purchased and Arc Ultra and Sub 4 and must say have been very disappointed. I expected this setup would “just work” as I am accustomed to with Apple gear. Not the case. TV volume control via CEC just stopped working - this never happened for more than five years with my old Yamaha receiver. Eventually a TV software upgrade “fixed” it, though suspect it was simply the hard restart that those updates require. Now Airplay just doesn’t work. Arc appears on my phone as a speaker, but selecting just sits for ages and then pops up an error saying can’t connect. This stuff is basic stuff and any brand, much less a “premium” brand like Sonos, should be all over it.
Hoping to see improvements quickly or I’ll be returning this buggy gear and going back to reliable Hifi.
UPDATE: I hard restarted the Sonos Arc and AirPlay is working again, for now. Fingers crossed it stays this way.
Nope, broken again. AirPlay refusing to connect. Amateur hour.

Did you try using a fixed IP for Arc Ultra on your network?
Everything working as expected when playing audio via Sonos app?
Hi Ralf,
No I didn’t try fixed IP. I don’t think this should be necessary. No other AirPlay devices I’ve ever owned have this problem. I suspect it’s some initialisation bug in the Sonos code that kicks in when devices go into stand-by/sleep or something.
Yes, works fine direct from Sonos App.
I’m giving up and will try again on the other side of a Sonos update.
Hi,
I have just purchased an ERA 100. The main usage I planned was an integration of this device in a multi room solution (Lyrion Media Server) that also supports AirPlay. The current result is: the ERA 100 is integrated, however when streaming music to the device there is no sound coming out of the ERA 100. All other airplay devices in this multi room environment (Denon AVR / Apple HomePod ) are working just fine.
If I understand correctly based on other reactions of affected users there seems to be a difference in the implementation of airplay within ERA devices and other SONOS devices (Port / Five / One).
Can you say if and when this issue is fixed on the ERA devices? Currently I cannot integrate ERAs in my environment as planned and I consider sending it back because AirPlay is not implemented in the same way as other speakers have implemented it.
Best Regards
Mirko
I have the same issue with AirPlay on my Sonos Arc Ultra with Gen3 sub. I reboot my router and it fixes the problem once. When leave and try to rejoin, same problem again, error message as can’t join my ultra. I’ve tried fixed IP for my Arc and a sub as well but this also does not make any difference. Very buggy bloody equipment that comes at a premium price. This is on top of my tv losing its HDMI eArc settings all the time, which only happens with Sonos. Had another brand soundbar and no issues. Might need to go back to them and dump Sonos. Ridiculous, cannot recommend this product to anyone due to the ongoing bugginess.
I just had similar issue with my Era 100. After not willing to admit there is problem with their they made me have a call with L2...after reset etc, it started working at they suspected that 6Ghz network having the same name as my 2.4 and 5Ghz one, but then stopped working.
After sharing some of the thread on this forum, they said that indeed there is a problem with Era 100, Era 300 or Move 2 and this is under investigation. They can’t provide ETA.
When i asked to swap product or have a loaner, they said that they can’t since the product works fine with the Sonos…
Very very disappointing. Basically i have a useless system if i can’t airplay. Bottom line not recommending this product at all.

You can AirPlay from an Apple device to Sonos Era-100. Seems its not just Sonos devices affected, as I am also unable to AirPlay from Apple Music on Windows to LG TV, but from Apple device works fine.

I just can confirm this… it seems to be an Apple problem using Airplay via wifi6 from windows.
