AirPlay broken on Apple Ventura?

Recently updated my Mac to Ventura and it will not AirPlay to any of my Sonos speakers.
It sees them, shows as connected but zero audio.
I thought it may relate to HomeKit so added all speakers in there. They show up but with a banner saying something like ‘This device is not compatible’.

Under previous OS I had no problems whatsoever.
Should add that AirPlay from my iPhone & iPad works perfectly to all speakers & rooms.
Issue seems to be 100% with the Ventura OS.

Any thoughts?

Hi @Ad_Rex,

You shouldn’t need to have the speakers on HomeKit to use AirPlay, as long as the speakers are AirPlay compatible you can cast directly from iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

It’s possible that this could be a network issue or that the Mac isn’t transmitting audio correctly but without a diagnostics, it’s hard to pinpoint what the error could be.

I would recommend submitting a diagnostics after connecting via AirPlay with your Mac and replying here with the confirmation number as that will give me a better look into your system and what could be causing this issue.

You could also reach out to our support team for some live troubleshooting as they have the tools necessary to help troubleshoot this issue with you.

I hope this helps!

I have the same problem here with my 2020 Mac mini running the latest version of macOS Ventura (15.5). The thing is that when using the 2022 Mac Studio running the same version of macOS, it works perfectly.

If it’s working on one machine, but not on the other, that sure sounds like an Apple issue. Sonos doesn’t have any knowledge about where the AirPlay 2 signal is coming from, only that it is one.

Same issue - Mac Mini M2, two Era 100 as stereo pair.

Sonos App works, Roon via Airplay works, Airplay from Mac Mini M2 looks like it’s working, but no sound.

It is an Apple issue. I have it from one M1 iMac only where neither the Sonos Era 100 nor HomePod Mini produce sound through Airplay. A restart of the iMac temporary fixes it but the problem comes back within a day. I normally use Spotify Connect and that works fine. The speakers work fine using AirPlay if I use my iPhone or iPad.

I will try a complete wipe of all caches using Ventura Cache Cleaner to see if that changes anything.
