Adding to a legacy system

I am still running my old Sonos system with the S1 controller v 11.15.4. Have recently been given an old play 5, but cannot add it to the system because the add product is greyed out. Keeps asking me to update, but obviously my system wouldn’t work with an S2 controller. Have reset the play 5, have plugged it directly into the router, but no joy. Is there any workround I can use?

Why try to switch to the S2 controller?

Really sounds like you would be far better staying on S1, and updating the S1 Controller and firmware to the latest versions. You can do that from inside the S1 Controller, I think on Settings System menu, but it has been a while.

It’s possible that you have a later version PLAY:5 that has been used in an S2 system. You can downgrade the PLAY:5. Check here.
